How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Nothing at all comes to mind...
I spend three nights at the Holiday Inn Express - Exeter and seldom have I experienced such a service-orientated and friendly group of hotel staff, without expection. For me, the location was perfect, just next to the river, not too far from the centre of town. Breakfast was good with a variety of English fare, and most importantly, the coffee was excellent. Even when I remained in my room til late morning, the cleaning service took care that everything was immaculate for the next evening. I'll be back!

Breakfast was very basic. Not much choice and not particularly tasty.
Rooms were fine. Check in was straightforward. Location was just on the ede of the City Centre.

Close to main road so could get noisy but only if your room is facing the road.

The bar/breakfast area felt a little cramped, too many tables and chairs.
Very clean, comfortable and friendly staff. Food quality was of a good standard. Location great with on-site parking. Had a twin room which was very comfortable, clean, nicely decorated and everything you need for an overnight stay/ couple of nights break

Absolutely nothing! It was all up to a good standard!
It was my first time ever staying in a hotel and I was so pleased! It was super clean and the room and bathroom were so cute! Check in was also easy and only took a couple minutes!

The room is comfortable but basic, great for short stays. The breakfast which was free for me was great the first morning (Saturday) but Sunday was not so good where everything was over cooked. Not helped by being very busy with children being allowed to run around causing chaos and a flood of boiling water in the drinks area! All down to inattentive and apparently hungover parents (they openly said so ?!) who let the situation get out of hand and miserable for everyone else who was trying to get breakfast and drinks.

Hot breakfast could have been more appetising but still good value. No other issues at all.
Convenient location by the river. though a brisk upward walk into the city. It was convenient to have bar area and the breakfast was fine. Everything worked well and the room had all facilities I needed

The two bread toasters were extraordinarily slow and caused slight queueing around them. The choice of sliced breads was excellent though. I can't think of anything else I didn't like.
There was a wide choice of food for breakfast and it was good quality and kept hot until needed. There were a good selection of self-service hot drinks. The tables were kept clean and clean and cleared frequently by friendly staff.

Bed mattress is very firm.
Breakfast hot items are limited to 4 items. No mushrooms, hash browns, tomatoes or fried eggs. Toasters are painfully slow !!! Coffee is good.

Extra parking charge, £25 for a dog (it is £15 at the Mercure), house wine was expensive and didn’t taste too good!
Staff were so friendly! I was greeted and served by Beyza, who at the time was serving at the bar and at reception simultaneously. Despite being so busy she kept a smile on her face and was so welcoming.
