I could see females having an issue with the mixed bathrooms. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast, it's very basic, although you can't expect much from a hostel.

Amazing location, just off the Royal Location. Friendly staff and comfortable communal areas. Dorm was cosy enough, not too hot in the 4-bed room.

The hygiene of the bathrooms and the kitchen wasn't great (especially the crowded fridges were a bit tiresome), but the staff was relaxed, the beds were clean (no bedbugs or any of the sorts) and I would go back. Great price quality balance.

The showers and toilets were a bit small and there were only two of them at my floor.

I really liked the common lounge. It was very comfy and it was a nice place to talk to people. In that way it was always quite in the dormitory so if you wanted to relax nobody was making a phone call there for example. The lounge also had a pool table, some couches, board games and the kitchen had a microwave and other appliciances for guests to use. High Street Hostel had some nice activities organized for each day of the week free of charge. I attended the Wednesday activity which was Scottish Dancing!

I slept in a 10 bed dorm, can't recommend it, 4 or 6 is better for me. I did not sleep well, because it was very hot in the small room and these old windows let all loud street noises through, even when closed. I know now that Edinburghs least noisy time is between 4 and 8 in the morning. And yes, I had ear plugs and even head phones on top. Also these mixed sex showers and toilets are not my thing. How am I supposed to get out of the shower without being naked and without getting all my clothes wet? There are fridges to store food, but my food was gone the next day, despite searching for 30 min.

Really nice atmosphere. There is a nice entertainment programme every night. They have a simple breakfast for 3 £ only, super price. Very friendly staff at a 24h reception.

Was hard in the kitchen to get a space in the fridge. Because there quite a lot people staying. There were many volunteering so cleanness was fine at that time. But I guess it could change from who is cleaning and kitchen was closed until 7am. For an early bird having my own breakfast or if you must leave early you have to consider that. But I would rate definitively a 9 or more.

I like the location the closeness to the Royal Mile was excellent. Community was great too. I liked that there was a chance to book just Girl dorm.

Rooms & common spaces were clean but unfortunately toilets and shower rooms had overflowing trashcans, dirty sinks and lavatories. I understand the reason there might be many guests using those.

The location is excellent, everyone was very kind - both staff members and other guests make this place feel very comfortable and welcoming. I really loved it!

The only downside is that there are only 3 toilets and 3 shower cubicles (at least on the floor I was on), and it can get busy at times.

The location of the hostel is ideal for a stay in the city centre. Within walking distance from Waverly Station and live music venues. Staff exceptionally clear and kind.

the way other room guests just leave their items sprawled over the floor close to their bed but immediately below or around the ladder to the upper bunk. Lockers are provided but some guests are "reluctant" to get them as it requires a £10 deposit - even though you get it back upon check-out...yes, deposit is refunded but still not everyone takes it and prefer to leave their bags, clothes, shoues scattered around the place and ladder. So inconsiderate, so I took absolute pleasure in kicking their stuff further away so that I had a clear passage when coming down the ladder and also walkig to my locker

Have to climb many stairs if your room is on the top floor. The bathroom is quite small.

It has the best location, near to all attraction spots in Edinburgh. Staff are so helpful and friendly. The room is quiet and clean. Keep it up. Cheers
