How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

David and Beate were amazing hosts. We felt at home. The accommodation was huge, ideally located in the city, within walking distance of good restaurants and pubs. We had wonderful advice on every question we had. Breakfast was amazing too. I will definitely go back to Haus Alba for the whisky festival next year !! Thank you for everything :)

Great location in the center of town. Owners were wonderful people. Bea was a great hostess her husband, David, spent quite a while giving us tips on various distilleries. He does whiskey tours and if we had an extra day, we would’ve done one with him. Highly Encourage staying here and do the whiskey tour with David- he knows his stuff!

Very clean property; bed was quite comfortable and the shower was strong and hot..what more can you ask for? On yes! — great breakfast and lovely hosts :-) David and Beata were very knowledgeable and passionate about all things Scotland and Speyside single malt whisky. We had a great time.

It was the second time that my wife and I stayed at Haus Alba. Same impression as the first time: David and Beate are very approachable, the room is perfectly clean and comfortable, their breakfast is delicious, and David always has great advice on what to do in the area. I recommend 100% !

Not quite enough sockets for the required re-charging of phones and laptops, so an extension lead might be a useful addition.
Extremely friendly hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay a great experience. Room was very comfortable, breakfast was delicious and David even scraped the ice off our car for us whilst we packed up. Highly recommend.

Literally walking distance from everything. Clean, spacious, amazing breakfast and David and Beate was fantastic hosts. They give fabulous recommendations and do several tours. Definitely recommended.

Perfect location for using local shops and cafes. Also well placed for exploring the wonderful countryside. Breakfast was perfect. Room was spotlessly clean. David and his wife were extremely helpful in every way.

David and Beate were welcoming and very pleasant. The Hous Alba is lovely. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bed is enormous! Breakfast was fantastic, a real treat. Our hosts are very knowledgeable about whisky. If you are interested in or just enjoy whisky, this is a great place to stay. We appreciated and enjoyed our welcome sample. The location is perfect to explore Grantown by foot. Parking is very close and easy. We were really pleased to have chosen to stay here. I fully recommend it.

The bed was super/comfortable, right on the town square with no problem to park my rental car. aAldo, the complimentary Whiskey setup in my room, was wonderful-being in the middle of “whiskey country”. And I’m not even a whiskey drinker, but still a nice touch.

Breakfast was wonderful! Make your selection the night before from a varied menu. David and Beate were great hosts. Informative and providing guidance to touring the area up through Elgin to Inverness. One of our favorite stays while in Scotland.
