How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

We found it a bit difficult to get from railway station because of roadworks but hotel couldn't do anything about that.
The hotel was really nice and staff were very accommodating. It is only a short walk into York.

Fire alarm went off at 7:45am on Sunday morning. Not told about any planned alarm. It went on for around 10 mins, just long enough for us to drag our butts out of bed and get dressed to leave in a hurry and as we reached the landing it stopped! Not a happy bunny about such a ride awakening.
Good location. Clean and well thought out bedroom plan. Love having a fridge in the room.

I can't think of anything.
We love this hotel, it is close to bars, restaurants, the river and everything we love about York. It has become our hotel of choice for York.

The hotel is perfect location very central, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, comfortable reception area with bar! 5min walk to shambles, 8 min walk to cathedral, just under 20 min walk from train station but £6 in taxi, lots of shops an pubs/restaurants around!

The hotel was not able to accommodate request to check in an hour and a half early, even with months' notice (this may be different for a more plentiful type of room- maybe it was just because we had a family room which is a more rare type of room and a busy weekend). The view from the room was of a construction site and the air con circulated in a way that froze my head while I slept and the sofa bed was very very firm for our child. No parking and not cheap.
The breakfast buffet was pretty good but the coffee was not nice it mixed powdered milk in a machine and was not the best but there was a good selection of well presented food and a really nice area to sit in with plenty of space for many guests to sit. the room was very clean and updated nicely with cute pictures on the wall. Gym was good and 24 hour access. Staff were friendly and worked very hard on a busy weekend.

Maybe keep a coffee machine working in the lobby
Breakfast buffet was plentiful and very good. Beat my expectations. The staff at this hotel was phenomenal. Room was very cosy and well thought out. Would stay again if I came back to York!!

Just the view from the window, which was a demolition site, but this is no fault of the hotel.
Very friendly and efficient staff, lovely comfortable rooms, and an excellent breakfast.

My daughter and I had a wonderful couple of days. We were pleasantly surprised at the location, it was very close to central restaurants. We had read that there might be an issue due to queueing at breakfast, however it was absolutely fine, no problem.

Breakfast was never hot. My view from my room was two large piles of rumble obviously a building had been demolished. The fire alarm went off 5.30am then again a few hours late,apparently it was a fire test which staff didn't know about,but reception told us that staff had got everyone out. But obviously didn't check floor 4 where we were situated and also a cleaner carrying on with her duties?we were also told that the staff didn't get the customers out because it was raining. That's bad.

An on-site restaurant would be good; guests do not always want to go outside the hotel for meals.
Modern building and comfortable room; helpful and freindly staff. Breakfast very good. Also, good bus connection between hotel and railway station; bus stop close to hotel entrance.
