How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Absolutely beautiful. It is such a little gem in the countryside - I recommend anyone who is thinking of a seaside stay take up the opportunity to take a weekend break here. Whitby is only a 3 25 to 30 minute walk with beautiful views. Such a treat.

the breakfast was well cooked and tasty and served in private from ali probably the perfect host she even bakes is there nothing this lady cannot do varandah outside your room ali will even chill your wine for you and probably help you to drink it to please dont all book at once as i would like to return but would get injured in the crush

Ali and Pete are the most wonderful hosts ever! The room is beautiful, clean and calming with a private terrace and entrance, with gorgeous views of the countryside. A five minute drive from the town center, it made for a great base to explore Whitby. The breakfast itself was absolutely scrumptious and so fresh! The hosts went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable and memorable stay. I loved all the personal and thoughtful touches, and would return just for the homemade lemon drizzle cakes! Highly recommend the Glen View B&B :)

Excellent hosts, LGBTQ+ friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for Ali and Pete. A very welcoming couple who made us feel invited but also respected our privacy. Couldn't have asked for any more from them and I am very grateful we booked here for our anniversary trip! We will be back!

Lovely walk to Whitby along heritage railway line and river Esk, quiet village location, the homemade cake and chocolate on arrival by lovely hosts, delicious breakfast with lots of choices

Everything was perfect so nothing was not to like
We had our own entrance, room with own dining area & bathroom, also decked large balcony with amazing views to enjoy. Everything was spotless & worked well. The bed was so comfy & the area was quiet with aided a good nights sleep. The breakfast was perfect with vegetarians catered for. The hosts were just lovely. We can recommend the Bridge inn just down the road for fabulous home made food. We would highlight recommend & will be sure to return.

Tucked away just off the Main Street - close to Whitby but far enough for total peace and quiet . Self contained and warm and cosy . Clean as a whistle with lovely comfy bed. Superb hosts - super friendly and not intrusive but there when needed . Homemade cake was delicious and the breakfast was superb . Beautiful views also. 100% all round !

Glen view B&B is an exceptional place to stay. Very clean and spacious with everything you’ll need for a break away. Situated in Ruswarp, a lovely little village approximately 15-20 minutes walk along a beautiful foot path into Whitby harbour. Topping it of with such lovely hosts Ali and Pete who provide an excellent service, fantastic breakfast and homemade cakes.

There was not a thing I could fault!
The welcome we received from Ali was phenomenal. We felt so welcome,, their b&b is clearly their pride and joy and it was a 6* experience from walking into the cleanest room we have ever stayed in. The attention to detail is top class! Beautiful bed linen, hommade.lemon drizzle cake,.a private terrace with beautiful views. I could go on and on. Breakfast was amazing, Ali is most certainly a feeder and you will not leave hungry!.It was bought to our room at the time we requested, piping hot and beautifully presented. We will most definitely be returning. If you are lucky enough to see a booking space on here....don't hang around!

The room and bathroom were spotless. The owners were super friendly. The location is great, a 25 minute walk from the centre of Whitby in a quiet area. The view from my private bit of garden was great. Nice village pub which serves good food less than five minutes walk. I would 100% recommend this place and hope to return again. The breakfast was fantastic. I has cake in the room which was exceptional.

There was nothing I loved everything was like a top off the range hotel.

There wasn't anything we didn't like wish we could of stayed longer
We only stayed one night but would liked everything the room was very comfortable,the shower was excellent. The host Ali and Peter where fantastic there made you feel very welcome and the breakfast was very good as well
