How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Parking can be a challenge as it is a very popular destination locally.
The atmosphere, dining, service and location were superb. Room was great.

The carpark wasn't big enough for the guests who had booked to stay, as well as local folk popping in for a meal, drinks, or a social.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere of the hotel was welcoming and relaxing. It was easy to check in, and my room was comfortable, spacious, and satisfactory. The food served was excellent 👌.

Overwhelming smell of fish everywhere and the morning staff were a little rude at breakfast but the food made up for it - as the quality of the breakfast ingredients was amazing !

The room was spacious, the view over the river was great, the bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and breakfast was lovely! Dinner was super too!

Nothing. Everything was up to a great standard.
Great room with a fantastic view of the embankment. Rooms were spacious, had everything you would expect and more. Will be coming back soon. Great value for money and staff were so pleasant.

The bed was not comfortable and not enough bedding so i got chilly in the night.
Very friendly staff and good location opposite the river. The food and menu were both good and quite reasonable prices.

Parking was limited at the rear so on street (paid by the hour ) is the only other option

Would of preferred a 12pm check out, but it wasn't a big issue.
The location, the view from the room of the river was amazing, comtfortable bed, excellent quality of the coffee and drinks provided.

Nothing worth noting
What a lovely room with a view. Such comfortable beds, lovely white linen and towels. We've stayed a few times now and never disappointed. Everything we needed was in the room. So grateful to have the room ready ahead of the stated check in time. We also got lucky with the car park. It was full on arrival and just as we were ten point turning to get out, some ladies were just leaving it was such a relief. Everything worked out beautifully and would not hesitate to recommend or stay again. Nice terrace on a sunny day can't be beaten in Bedford which is not the greatest town apart from The Embankment and Castle Road area. 😄

The only gripe was that our view was a brick wall and we couldn't open the window but, as we spent hardly any time in the room it didn't matter.
Great location, lovely food and fantastic staff. One of our group had a medical emergency (thankfully ok in the end) and the staff dealt with it calmly and professionally.

Did not like no phone in the room and the mobile number on card to contact reception wasnt answered after attempts
We found the staff outstanding , they were attentive, extremely friendly and NOTHING was too much trouble. Our stay was so goodcthat we ended up staying an extra night. The breakfast was excellent and the quality of produce used was also excellent

Car parking is difficult on site but staff advised us on a good multi story car park to use, about 4 min walk away which actually worked well for us as it was free on a Sun & I think after 6pm. It's quite hard carrying bags up to top floor, so it was just as well my elderly parents were not with us this time! Couldn't see a lift anywhere, but it kept us fit for the weekend!! WiFi, we couldn't see anything on how to connect to it in our room so didn't use it, but this would be more problematic for a longer stay. None of this impacted our stay in anyway at all & we still thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was all fantastic, all staff were so friendly, polite & very helpful. The service we received was outstanding as was the food & tea/coffee facilities in the room. We also much appreciated the water bottles & tissues on the bedside tables, and the hairdryer. We were very pleased to see that the shampoo, soap etc was in beautiful reusuable bottles & that there was good storage areas in the room & bathroom. It was an amazing mini break for us which was well needed with an absolutely wonderful view for breakfast. It was a convenient location too and we enjoyed being able to walk everywhere from our room. We will definitely be returning in the near future. Thank you to all the hardworking staff for a most enjoyable stay, we will see you again soon.
