Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe hotel didn't satisfy my request for a lower room; all single rooms are in the attic, up several flights of steep stairs. This is a problem for people with mobility issues like me. It is not stated on their website. Also, the room was so small that I had to stand up from the bed and put my head in the skylight, then duck down and hobble to the bathroom. The smallest room I have ever stayed in my entire life.
For my final 3 nights in Scotland I booked a room at Ediburgh House Hotel. It was on Pilrig street near a lot of pubs and restaurants in Leith, Edinburgh.

RomaniaVery few to little from the staff speaks english, unless you came in at the exact check in time, you will have to search for the cleaning staff through the hotel in order to leave your luggage until the check in. Sincerely, it could've been a solid 7-8, but in the last night, at 3.00 am, there was a leaking water issue through our ceiling, right from the electric bulb. To make things even worse, the water was leaking to one side of the bed.
Cheap price compared to the others hotels nearby; Good position in the city; Close to the bus station; Room was overall clean; Good for staying few nights and if u plan to visit the city a lot without spending too much, but not more

Czech RepublicWe got a room in a basement (!) with the tiniest window not allowing enough air/daylight. Moreover, our bathroom was indeed private, but it was located down the hall (about 10m) so you had to walk through the "public" corridor to get there. It was OK because we did not spend too much time at the hotel anyways, but I would only recommend it for short stays, not for a romantic getaway.
The house is in a good location, close to the center and tram/bus stops but quiet enough not to be disturbed by the city night life. Staff was OK, checkin and checkout process easy. There was working TV and blow dryer in the room, and also kettle with teas and cofees for free. Rooms were clean.

United KingdomThe room I paid for was on the lower end of what I was expecting to pay, and it was still a very reasonable/good rate for a room which was that close to the city centre. So, I'm very aware of what I'm saying. However. Firstly, my room was directly opposite the top of the stairs on the second floor, so at night time when people were coming in after their nights out etc, it was VERY noisy. Now that has a lot to do with the guest rather than the hotel, but, it's a point worth noting. My room had a curtainless/blindless sky light window, so as soon as daylight came in to to the room in the morning, I was awake. Maybe a roller blind in there should be essential. The shower had no water pressure whatsoever, so even though I showered in the morning, I didn't necessarily feel clean because the water literally dripped on to me. Again, I'm aware it's an old building with lots of rooms, and it was a budget room, but, a good shower is essential for me.
The hotel itself was in a very reasonable location from the city centre. Around a 15 minute walk from the st James centre at the end of Princes Street/Leith walk. Check in was quick, hassle free and the man I spoke with on the desk was lovely, welcoming and informative. The bed itself was comfortable and the room had everything I needed. I don't seek luxury when I travel, I just want a clean room with a decent enough bed.there was a kettle, hairdryer and TV. None of which I used but they were all there with a selection of tea and coffee.

SwedenOf course you have to expect some minor downsides for the money you're paying - which isn't really an issue in itself necessarily but more about having sober expectations. Keep in mind that it's an old building. I stayed there in late March and it was very cold in the room unfortunately. The walls are also very thin and you could hear the neighbors quite a lot past midnight, even if they were just talking in a moderate voice (which of course wouldn't be an issue if they were sleeping haha - but that, alas, wasn't the case during my stay).
It's a fairly nice location with either a 30-min walk to the most central part or a 20-min walk to Leith (I always walk a lot so it's not an issue for me). It's also 5-min walk to the tram that can take you in either direction. The area is very pleasant with a beautiful church down the street. And the place itself has a historical charm.

BulgariaThe staff - I am not sure that they speak English. We asked them about a missing umbrella and they just shut the door in our faces. Moreover, on the night we checked in one of the booked rooms was very cold - the heating was switched off, it was like they didn’t know we were coming. Lastly there was a big problem with the hot water - we got only 1-2 minutes of hot water per shower. Definitely an unpleasant experience when you have spent the whole day outside in the cold rainy weather.
The location is excellent - the area is quiet so you can have rest and there is a bus and tram stop nearby. You can also find a supermarket and bakeries in a walking distance. The beds were great - very cozy and comfortable.
