The new parking scheme gets a 'thumbs down' from me. The parking used to be free; now one has to mess about with dreaded apps! Not everyone has or wants a mobile phone and some of us come to the lakes to get away from technology. In any case, the wifi signal is very poor here. The tv didn't work but then I'm not too bothered about tv but other guests might be. There wasn't a mat in the shower so I was a bit worried about slipping so it was a good job there were grab handles on the bath. Another pointer for Derwentwater Hotel to know is that booking.com absolutely hound/spam the life out of guests. I received at least one e-mail a day from them from the point of booking and throughout cajoling me to upgrade and it was really annoying. Another guest I spoke with felt exactly the same. It would be great if it was possible to book directly with the hotel in future. Again, less technology and more relaxation is what a holiday is about for me.

The location of the hotel is excellent and that is why I am a returning customer. The surrounding gardens and views are excellent. The hotel's breakfast is very good and I would recommend it. The rooms were heated, clean and adequate. Full marks for having a lift - a great shout when you have heavy bags. The reception staff are very nice. The hotel offers plenty of space for people to sit and relax. The hotel is close to the walking activities that I came to do.

The room was very cold when we got there so I turned all the radiators up only to be too hot! The bathroom was basic but could have done with a bit of tlc as the flooring was old. We couldn’t get the tv to work properly it looked like you could access Netflix but you couldn’t log in. I tried to call reception but no answer to check either so left it.

We stayed in the apartment side of the hotel which looked like a big old house. The apartment was very spacious and I loved the view from the lounge although we couldn’t see the lake. The bed was very comfortable after a days walking slept no problem at all!

The windows in our room were rather draughty, there was a crack in the wash basin and our bed was a bit creaky.

The location suited us for our stay - close to Keswick centre and easy walks around the Hotel. Our room (250) had a pleasant view and we were close to our friends who were also staying at the Hotel. At breakfast there was a varied choice, and every one was happy and full!

Extremely squeaky old floor boards throughout. We heard everything from above and people below us probably had the same. Reception staff could do with basic training when welcoming guests and when they leave. Not really fussed and don’t give you breakfast times, suggestions etc The main bar area and conservatory is just lacking any character, atmosphere or care taken. While it’s great that rooms are dog friendly there are visible large stains on the floor, rooms are very clean but this wasn’t ideal.

Very dog friendly. Amazing location. I can imagine on a sunny day the gardens would be lovely but our stay was a washout with rain. Very good breakfast albeit only one staff member and kept running out of things like plates.

Some communal areas are not the most appealing in cleanliness but as quickly walking through it's fine. We had a few issues with the TV during the day but worked perfect at night.

Nice range of food at breakfast but not much cooked veggie options, reception and bar staff very friendly and welcoming. Very hot water for bath/ shower after long day. Lovely grounds that lead to a bit of the lake and then a short walk to Keswick if looking for hustle/ bustle.

It was newly refurbished which is nice but stuck of paint. Missing kettle soon rectified along with missing mugs and spoons. Apartment sleeps 2 but had 3 arm chairs yet no table to eat at. The bed was incredibly hard and uncomfortable. I booked as it said it had a lift but the self catering apartments aren’t in the main hotel and there is no lift in that part. This was a problem given I’d gone with my elderly mother. Reached into cupboard to get backing trays to cook on and immediately retracted. DISGUSTING! Trays covered in thick fat and grease. Refurbed in a hurry with No care and attention.

There is no kids menu at all or kids fresh drinks available. There was a pizza menu but no pizzas available lastnight as there was no cheese. We had to walk down to the local pub which wasn't ideal as we were all absolutely knackered and it was pitch black. But, it is what it is. The kitchen by the boiler cupboard smelt of wee. The bathroom is directly above the kitchen, the man said he will ask someone to check it out. He asked could it be off previous dogs but i dont think it was. When the heating kicks in of an evening the kitchen smelt really bad.

The location was perfect, the gardens, lake and the grounds are beautiful. Lots of lovely walks from your doorstep. The gentlemen who checked us in and out was really friendly and helpful. We stayed in Glamara Cottage which was the cosiest thing ever. Spacious enough for a family of four and a dog. Gorgeous upstairs bedroom.

Good luck with having a shower.. boiling water or cold, nothing in-between (room 205). Just another old hotel hanging in there - in desperate need of modernisation.

Friendly and knowledgeable reception. Good location. 20 min walk into Keswick. Breakfast was good. Price (£72 incl brkfst). Served its purpose for a 1 night stopover.

The hotel is in need of a major update and some of the staff didn't seem the happiest in their jobs. Twice i came across a staff member drinking a cup of tea when maybe a little more attention to customers would be better. Example; at breakfast there were no glasses for orange / apple juice and the water ran out - the lady working was at the check in desk drinking a cup of tea/coffee and not busy. I thought this was maybe a little lax.

I loved the location of the hotel which was perfect for us as we had a paddleboard. I also liked the price of hotel in comparison to those in central Keswick.

The communal area of self catering apartments is pretty grotty. Sofa bed was painfully uncomfortable. Overall though a good budget option for a couple of nights on the edge of Keswick.

Great location at start of catbells walk and only 15 mins walk from keswick. very friendly and helpful staff. Large self catering apartment. Plenty of parking. Nice grounds and conservatory/bar area with a great view. The nearby village cafe and the pub did really good food.

Hotel is in need of an update (decor) otherwise a great place to stay.

Staff - Friendly gentlemen in reception greeted us at the hotel daily. Location - Great to be able to walk down to the lakeside from the hotel, nice walk into Keswick via the footpath and on the bus route to venture further into the national park.
