Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHotel is a little tired decor wise. There was a very loud function going on downstairs but the music was stopped at a reasonable time. Good value for our purpose.
Proximity to Piece Hall and Theatre. Convenient parking.

United KingdomA bigger room would have been nice, but it didn't create a problem. There were quite a few stairs to climb, which could be an issue for somebody with health issues
The Hotel was in a good location for the purpose of my visit to Halifax. The room was rather small, although it was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom contained a good shower. Breakfast was good with plenty to chose from. The overnight Car Parking rate at £5.00 per night was good, it was situated about 2 minutes from the Hotel. The staff were very pleasant.

United KingdomThe hotel will demand you pay £100 damage waiver on checking in, which they will refund when they have inspected your room after checkout (or not if you caused damage). This is not mentioned in their booking.com details but they won't let you check in without paying it. Whilst I'm sure all hotels have issues with damage caused by a few guests, this charge being demanded when you weren't expecting it is not good - £100 is a lot, and not everyone has that to spare. I entirely resent the implication that all guests are fundamentally untrustworthy and likely to cause expensive damage if not forced to pay a waiver to ensure good behaviour. My refund was processed promptly and I got it back on the same day I checked out, but they do warn it can take 3-5 days to refund back to you, which they said depended on your bank and how fast they process things. Besides this - which was of course not a reflection on the receptionist who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful but had to enforce rules decided by the hotel owners - there was a loud private party happening in the hotel bar, which the receptionist apologised for and explained would be ending shortly. I checked in around 11pm and the function did end shortly so not a problem, but be advised if you want a quiet early night, this may not be the hotel for you, particularly at the weekend. The wifi connection wasn't great, and if you are not good with stairs this is not the hotel for you as there are no lifts. I won't stay here again because of the £100 damage waiver. However, if this was removed, the other issues were not serious for me. If you're ok with stairs, can cope with a bit of noise at weekend evenings, have £100 spare during your stay and don't mind the hotel's owners insinuating that guests are more likely than not to damage the hotel, this hotel is reasonably priced, convenient and clean, and has great staff.
The hotel is in a great location, opposite the train station and a short walk to everything in Halifax town centre. The staff were lovely and couldn't be more helpful. The decor of the room was a bit dated but it was clean and comfortable and had everything I needed.

United KingdomBedrooms weren't like the spacious ones on website with chairs in. Our beds in a twin room didn't even have headboards, just holes in the wall were something presumably used to be attached. Parking was over the road behind a disused building not in view from the hotel so not ideal.
The location was good next to Piece Hall, train station and Calderdale Industrial museum, walking distance from shops, market and Theatre. Staff were friendly.

United KingdomThe building is tired and definitely needs work. There is no lift. There were some dusty surfaces in the bedroom. Only 1 bath sheet size towel supplied. The other was a standard towel. Felt like we had only been given 1 see of towels. No bar available at 10.30 although they did get us a glass of water. A lot of people we knew paid less then us (£130) for their stay by booking later. Will definitely do this in future
The location was great. Easy to get around. Clean comfortable bed and clean bathroom and good breakfast which was only £8.95. Friendly staff
