Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsBreakfast and restaurant could use a makeover. A bit more contemporary menu would be great. Was glad they had a few gluten-free options and the staff is very friendly.
The lobby and the room were perfect. Location even better. This is a perfect venue to explore the city and visit a conference in the same week.

Poland- Staff was not very friendly - You cannot checkin before 3pm even if they have all the rooms vacant. If you have early flight consider different hotel.
It was warm and nice in the room though it was cold outside. Clean room and bathroom.

United KingdomThere was a limited evening menu which was somewhat overpriced, and had few if any small snacks. As it was in the bar I would have expected simple bar food to be available.
The ability to refuse room servicing is an excellent idea. The room was spacious and warm and comfortable. The shower was easy to access - a big plus. The location is very convenient.

AustraliaI did not think that the dining room was up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. For example, diners should not have to ask for Parmesan to be served with their risotto - it should be a given.
Very handy for me, well placed, friendly staff.

United StatesPrice during our weekend was a bit high, but reasonable compared to other properties. No slippers/robes.
Nice neighbourhood, a bit of a walk away from the main attractions but close to some nice, less touristy restaurants and shop. Infinite supply of marshmallows. Rooms are nice and well appointed. Feels homey.

United KingdomNothing particularly.
Huge room which had a sofa, king size bed, en-suite with bath, hair dryer, coffee machine, TV etc. Clean and tidy. Staff were very friendly. Hotel was nice and quiet but we were there in late January. We didn't spend loads of time at the hotel but the bar/restaurant area looked nice. Good location but about a 20 minute walk from the centre. Fine if the weather is dry but we had really rainy weather most of the weekend so ended up getting taxis a lot.

NigeriaStayed in the hotel twice in the space of 2 weeks, the staff that checked us in - think her name was Joanne the first time needs some lessons in customer service , she came off as being a bit rude.
Location was great, beds were very comfortable and the rooms was very clean. There was always flavoured water in the reception to drink when coming in or going out.

United KingdomParking was a bit pricey but plenty of parking spaces especially if you visit during the week when it is expected to be quiet.
The room was lovely with a nice television and large, comfy bed. The range of breakfast available was great and really set you up for the day. The food in the restaurant is lovely and a good option if you dont want to eat out. The hotel is in a really nice location in walking distance of the centre (it is hilly!!)). There are some lovely independent restaurants within walking distance and options on all the food delivery platforms. Also, small supermarkets in walking distance to the hotel if you need snacks, drinks etc. Staff were lovely and accomadating across all areas, from the front desk, bar staff, cleaners and restauarant workers. Would definitely stay here again and highly reccomend to anyone staying in Edinburgh for a couple of days :).

CanadaWater in the bathtub might have been hotter. Otherwise, everything was fine. There is really nothing to complain about.
Room, view, breakfast, location, staff. The hotel was perfectly situated for us, and its location (next to the Meadows) was great. The price was reasonable, the room tall and comfortable. I'd certainly stay there again.

United KingdomThe woman who checked us in on 10/04 around 6-ish was quite unfriendly and cold. Certainly not how I would expect a reception staff to treat clients. She did not smile at us when I told her I was checking in. It was like the ordeal was so bothersome for her and she just wanted us to leave her alone. Even the next afternoon, when I saw her on my way out of the hotel to eat and come back, she did not even acknowledge us at all. I noticed she was on her phone. Different receptionists in the morning greeted us when we got off the lifts, so it is just that single receptionist that I have an issue with. The gap between the room door and floor is wide enough for bright light from the hallway to get through to the room. I had to use a dressing hown to block the light out. (The black out blinds for the windows were terrific and worked wonderfully well)
The location was very close to a lot of restaurants and tourist landmarks. Lovely facilities, room was nice and clean.

United KingdomSome guests banged room doors late at night. The easy chairs in our twin room were not very comfortable.
The building and surrounding ones were impressive. We liked the style of the hotel. The area was good with plenty of facilities and transport links to the centre were good. The hotel lounge was both stylish and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. We liked the interior of our room especially the bathroom.

United StatesIt would be wonderful to have touches of history either about the hotel or Edinburgh. A timely store that sells conveniences would also be great. Most of all the hotel could reach another level of coziness and luxury if there were a library room with a fireplace where guests could spend time on rainy days! Also a restaurant that serves meals through the day including a Sunday roast, could be a huge plus.
The Bruntsfield Hotel is a surprise - well located, well designed and bright, this is an unpretentious and comfortable place to stay. The breakfast is generous. The staff are helpful. It was perfect for us in a lovely part of town.
