Some omissions notified to check out staff in writing. In particular the Stag Bar needs to be reconfigured. The bar itself is located in a small corner space with resulting small serving area. It would be better if it was placed along a longer wall. Also the cooked buffet breakfast offerings need to be presented in a manner which ensures the food is satisfactorily kept hot.

Well maintained internally and externally . The Spa was superb in design and facilities.

Beautiful place let down by sticky tables in restaurant

The only thing that really stood out as a negative was the table surfaces in the Veranda Restaurant where we had breakfast and an evening meal. They were incredibly sticky. You could not move your placemat or anything else that was on the table surface. It was almost laughable but really didn't add to the beautiful surroundings. We spoke to the restaurant manager who knew there was a problem with the table surfaces but explained that nobody had the time to do anything about it. She told us that they didn't have the staff to deal with laundering linen tablecloths. As we were leaving we also mentioned this observation to the receptionist and we suggested they might use paper tablecloths as it is such a shame for a beautiful hotel to be let down by something so relatively easy to deal with. My husband has emailed the hotel management but has had no response.

A lovely welcoming hotel set in beautiful grounds in a stunning location

A small fridge in the room would have been helpful

We had a lovely room overlooking the extensive gardens. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The buffet breakfast had a wide choice of continental or cooked. The Gluten-free choice was a bonus.

For some time now in different countries we enjoy sharing courses at dinner particularly on day of travel. After enjoying a very nice meal in this way in the main restaurant we were told this was not acceptable and we should not have done it!! In future we should eat in the bar!!

Beautiful old hotel in great location

I wouldn't come for the pitch and putt golf, sadly its not well maintained, but has a lot of potential, buffet breakfast is OK, hot in the hotel room as it had been a warm day (they do provide mini fans).

Come for the brilliant hard court tennis courts, great swimming pool and jacuzzi, proximity to Pitlochry and the beautiful woodland trails next to the hotel, including the black spout waterfall and lastly the beautiful grounds. Rooms were really clean.

Lovely well appointed traditional hotel in a wonderful location

So it was pretty warm while we were there and the lack of air conditioning can be an issue for sleeping but it was manageable with opening the windows wide to catch any breeze, using the fan provided and keeping the curtains closed during part of the day. Our room was south east facing so sun in the afternoon. But my mums room was north with curtains on a pole. Her room was far hotter and was bright at 4am. We would have swapped but hers had a walk in shower which ours didn’t. Breakfast was just ok we expected better for the price. It is a chef maintained buffet style. All fruit on the cold buffet was tinned, the scrambled eggs were inedible, haggis and black pudding didn’t benefit from being under a hot lamp. But the fried egg, bacon and sausage were lovely. It is just the cold that could do with a spruce up. Not a lot else to say.

Wonderful location and the gardens and grounds are lovely. Great range of room types we booked a room with a valley view on the 2nd floor. The room was spacious, immaculate (thank you Silvia in housekeeping) and well appointed. Excellent mattress and good blackout curtains. Essential for when the sun is up at 4am. Staff were all smiling, friendly and helpful. We attended a wedding and the banqueting food was excellent and the service highly efficient. The purpose built function room and wedding venue were lovely and everything ran like clockwork.

Staff very friendly, pleasant and approachable with the exception of one member of bar staff who appeared a bit miserable however, we don't know what they had going on behind the scenes. Spa was lovely and bedroom was spacious and comfortable. Only slight niggle with the room was that the mattress was a little bit too firm and I like a firm mattress. All in all a lovely stay in a cracking location. Highly recommended.

Some small nitpickings were that the room was very hot so had to open windows overnight, would have liked power sockets next to the bed, and the elevator ran a bit slow so sometimes had to wait a while.

I stayed the night before the Etape Caledonia road cycling event. I loved that they had setup for the event with a secure bike storage space, early 5am breakfast/checkout, and allowed me to park in their car park after checkout until after the event. The place is a castle on top of a hill with majesty views out the window and the property has pretty ponds and gardens, very scenic.

Only thing was I guess the price. Its not cheap, either for the rooms or for meals / drinks.

Loved our stay. The hotel itself is fantastic. Great situation in lovely interesting gardens. Water features a brilliant. The hotel itself is great as well with lots of interesting parts & maintains the view of a grand highland hotel. Staff were great too. Very welcoming and accommodating on reception. Rooms were good sized, had all the features you might expect. Showers were good. Wifi was good. Breakfast was excellent too.

Only real issue I had was when the shower stopped working half way through my shower (I assume this was due to overload on the water system, as after waiting a minute covered in soap, the pressure did return sufficient to rinse). £4 for a small bottle of coke in the bar felt like extortion (i.e. I didn't have cash to get a cheaper can from the vending machine outside the Lavender Spa.

Food was excellent. Staff were all very helpful (e.g., my room was swopped so I didn't have to change rooms between my two night stay. The morning and lunchtime walks through the woodland to the Black Spout were simply fantastic. What a location.
