Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI felt like I was a guest in Emily’s house. She couldn’t have been more thoughtful. The house is clean and comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen and all the rooms are a good size. There is a little patio over-looking their beautiful garden and woodland to walk in at the bottom of the garden.

Wow. This cottage is superbly appointed and spotless! Everything is spacious, orderly, convenient, comfortable, immaculate. We loved sitting in the back garden, and we loved our quiet breakfasts in the kitchen. We just loved being here, and wished we could stay longer. Emily and Trevor are excellent hosts--they welcomed us with a thoughtful basket of essentials and treats. They were kind and helpful. I'm grateful to Emily for finding and mailing out something I'd left behind. The list of restaurants was very helpful and as good as suggested. This is one of the best get-away cottages we've ever visited.

United KingdomEverything was perfect
The property was very easy to access and easy to find. The property was clean and exceptionally well equipped. This is the second time we have stayed at Ashwood in the last 12 months and we will definitely be back again next year. The washing machine and dryer is massive bonus and took away the hassle of catching up with washing when we got home. The house is situated in stunning grounds, with a very large front & back garden. I would definitely recommend staying here and while you are here I would suggest a trip to the cliffs of Dover, Canterbury and Camber Sands which are all only a short drive away.

NetherlandsYou are a bit far away from the shops, but that meant that it was a quiet surrounding. Minor detail: no coffee machine was there. We used our own instant coffee.
Free standing house and a large beautiful garden full of birds and squirrels! There was a large kitchen with DAB radio. The house had Netflix . It worked upstairs, but not downstairs (I think it was logged out there), but was not a problem for me. The owners are just nearby, I could have messaged them but I looked tv at BBC4 and there was the iPlayer from BBC. The older kids looked at Netflix upstairs and the youngest played with the large amount of Lego and the where many reading books for children. Welcome surprise was a basket with Kettle chips and box of cookies. There was a bottle of nice wine and a tray of butter in the cooler.

BelgiumThe holiday home was absolutely wonderful to stay at, with fantastic amenities (extremely well-equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms, cosy living room with games and toys for the children) and a beautiful garden. Both we and the children had a great time. The hosts were extremely helpful and friendly (comprehensive welcome pack!). The location is ideal to explore South East England (Canterbury, east coast beaches, white cliffs, plenty of castles, ...). We wish every holiday home would be like this!

Breakfast N/A . Two spacious bedrooms and the property situated in a lovely, peaceful, rural location, minutes outside of Ashford. Well maintained , clean property which has an excellent level of appliances and equipment throughout. Also has private patio seating area which also enjoys use of a large attractive garden surrounded by woodland. A nice surprise gesture was the supply of a very comprehensive welcome pack. NetherlandsWe had a lovely time at Ashwood Holiday Cottage. The whole house is very beautiful and has a great atmosphere. Plenty of space for a family and still very cosy. The location is excellent as well: loads to see within half an hour of the cottage. The garden and nearby forest are an added bonus. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again.
