How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Lovely apartment, a home from home with added nice touches, bottle of wine, biscuits, chocs & a pint of milk. 15 minutes to walk to harbour. Will definitely stay here again when visiting Whitby

The accommodation was stunning, spacious, spotlessly clean, modern and light, with wonderful facilities. It was in a superb location with free nearby parking. Communication with the owners was excellent, and they responded quickly to our questions, going above and beyond to make our stay so special. The welcome gifts on arrival were a really lovely gesture too, which were greatly appreciated. Having stayed in many places in Whitby over the years, we can honestly say that this is simply one of the best. No external third party host and stay agents looking after the apartment, no extortionate security fees and no regular reminders to leave promptly, as soon as you have arrived, make this wonderful apartment a real gem of a find in Whitby. We can't recommend Arch View enough, and we can't wait for our next visit.

Lovely apartment with modern decor and excellent facilities. It’s in an excellent location, a short walk from the harbour, train station and town centre, with Whitby Museum and Art Gallery in the park just across the road. Really handy for free on-street parking too. The information provided by the owners was helpful.

One more lamp in the kitchen area by the table would really help that dark corner at night . The apartment itself is bright.

Everything about the apartment was brilliant there was nothing at all to dislike.
The apartment was amazing, the hosts had put a lot of thought into what their guests could need. The location was handy for the park and the town. The fresh flowers, the welcome gift pack, guide for visitors was really appreciated. The apartment was very clean, beds were comfy and very good ommunication from the hosts. We would highly recommend Arch View to family & friends.

It was a hot weekend and as heat rises it was warm inside. Fans were provided and so this really helped.

Lots of stairs but that can’t be helped! Some local dogs made a bit of noise at night but nothing too intrusive. Would be ideal to have a chain on the door as I have a toddler who likes to open doors! But there is a snib to lock it. Parking in Whitby is at a premium, we were extremely lucky to get the last parking spot on the road or we’d have struggled. But owners can’t really do anything about that & it’s a general problem in Whitby.
Pretty much perfect! Great location, immaculately clean, welcome book was really helpful. Great to have some necessities - tea, coffee, sugar, milk.

For me it was perfect but one of my friends was struggling on the hill. All the more reason for it to be popular.
Great location with ample parking. The apartment was in immaculate condition.

Location was really good for us, short walk down to the marina/shops and a park just over the road! Property nice and clean, Hosts helpful and were available if we had any problems (which we didnt), little welcome pack on arrival also! Car parking was on-street parking but even though we didnt get outside the property when we first arrived we offloaded, parked elsewhere and then managed to get right outside later in the evening when spaces became available!

nothing. No complaints or anything negative to say at all.
Location was just a 10 min walk from the centre. Communication with the host was great. Apartment was perfect and very clean...bonus points for leaving some milk in the fridge and a welcome pack. We won't look elsewhere when we go back. Only slight draw back was that car parking nearby was limited, but we got lucky and parked just around the corner.
