Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe hotel had a different name Harleigh Hotel instead of Apple Tree. Everywhere was very dirty the moment we came in. From the outside one could see chairs piled up in the window. The lounge, corridors, smelly, dirty and unorganized not to health and safety standards. The room: dirty floor, dirty fridge, dirty furniture and windows. The bedside table had old coffee staines. There was a strong smell. The shower was blocked, sink was leaking. The milk was out of date. Worst place and not worth the money at all.

United KingdomArriving was a little confusing as we couldn't find the entrance, it turns out you check in at The Hadleigh Hotel next door. Still not sure why, not that it matters... But be aware that you won't find signage for the AppleTree Hotel, go next door!
Great location! Very friendly check in by Amir, who was also helpful throughout our stay. This is a very basic hotel but it is clean and secure and served us perfectly as an affordable and comfortable family stay in Eastbourne.

United KingdomAppletree Hotel does not exist! After spending much time looking for the hotel at the given address, we discovered there was no such hotel and that we were actually booked into the hotel next door. When checking in the chap on reception was friendly and helpful. The furniture in the room was very dated. The tv was useless as the picture cut out most of the time. Although the small shower room was fairly new, it could of been a lot cleaner. We had booked for two nights, to watch the Rothesay tennis tournament. We decided to travel home straight after the tennis finished instead of staying for our 2nd night. When we went to our room at 18.45pm to pack and leave, our room had not been cleaned, no beds made nor tea or coffee replenished.
The location.

United KingdomI didnt like paying nearly 150 for the night to be guided through a door which said private on to an extremely steep set of stairs to the basement. Although when i was shown to my room im glad it wasnt the one next too it as that must have been gutted by a fire or something. Also wasnt a big of the impressive gathering of dust inside the bed side light fitting which was clear to see as there was no lampshade, i didnt like that every time i went to reception to ask for a repair to be carried out or report some sort of issue there was a que of 2 or 3 people wanting to do the same, it was like watching people play faulty towers top trumps! Needless to say i ended up finishing a 14 hour day with a 4 hour drive home as i couldnt stand to stay in the place! The word deluxe was a bit of a stretch to say the least! The owners and management should be embarrassed!
I liked having to park about 6 roads away from the hotel to walk my stuff to a place which isnt actually called the apple tree hotel which was a fun surprise and my room being dirty without a kettle, other peoples clothes in the storage under the bed....oh and the lack of a lampshade really helped light the pavement outside from the underneath since the curtain rail had fallen off, even though the curtain was bodged up by the guy at reception i had a good time trying to figure out wether the curtains actually even covered the window in the first place and they would be the only thing stopping anyone stealing my stuff as 2 of the windows out of the 3 wouldnt actually fasten closed Felt as if the shower was bigger than the room. I used the room to have a shower and just went home
