Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBed mattresses are not so comfortable. Zero frills. You get what you pay. You have to close the window at night - else won’t be able to sleep because of the noise from the main road. No free room service.
Great location. Helpful staff - gave us a fan because it was too hot when we traveled. Visited in times of fringe - so expect to pay a heavy premium. Space is enough for 2 people. Good toilet. Room was clean

United StatesWould not let you check-in physically standing in front of them. You had to fill out this obnoxious online form while the reception watched you.
Clean, nothing exceptionally wrong with it. Wifi was great, able to take video calls and play online games without issue.

United KingdomIt was actually student accommodation which I was originally trying to avoid and something a few people seemed to be complaining about at reception. I was actually pleasantly surprised however and there wasn't loud music or the like that I might have expected from students who might have been staying over the holidays. That said, I think it would have been better to have been open about what is being sold in order to manage expectations. A kettle would also have been nice :)
Pretty good location, a short walk from the centre and also on the tramline so easy to get to most places. Clean room and friendly helpful staff.

United KingdomEverything could be cleaner: the room floors, the towels, the bathroom. Our en-suite was for disabled people, which I did not particularly enjoy because of the shower area. There was not an extraction fan and the smell of humidity and some damp was not pleasant.
The location was good. Staff was nice and let us leave our luggage after checking out, which we really appreciated. Despite the room facing a noisy street, after closing the window the noise was not excessive and we could sleep well.

United KingdomVery expensive for what it was - £184 per night during the festival, and for not much more I could get a private flat with a full-sized comfortable bed suitable for two, and a separate bedroom, which is what I did for the second half of my visit. The gym that tempted me to book was very basic and unventilated, making it somewhat smelly, and other shared facilities were not as good as they looked on the website, which was reflected by the fact they were totally deserted during my visit. Would not stay again unless price was significantly lower.
Basic but clean accommodation with a good personal kitchen. Very friendly and helpful staff.

United KingdomStreet noise was very loud and the room had no air conditioning so we when it was hot the windows had to be open. The bed had a sharp metal bit where the mattress wire had snapped and come loose.
Didn't get a chance to use the pool table and movie room, but I liked that they had it on offer.

- Comfortable location near New City. Close to tram station, railway station, pubs and restraunts. - Big enough room well equiped, nice view to the city - Nice welcoming personal - Small gym and home cinema available for free

IrelandThe bed wasn’t great (and had a spring coming out of the mattress). The heat was unbearable, we requested a fan and it made no difference to the room. We left the window open for some cool air and it was so so noisy outside. This really is college accommodation.
The staff were friendly, and the property was a 15/20 min walk from the centre

United KingdomAs we knew this was student accommodation - effectively unfurnished and without "hotel" facilities, it would be unfair to compare it to hotels or B&Bs which is where we usually stay in holiday breaks, so the relative lack of in-room facilities is hard to mark down as a "dislike". The shower cubicle was definitely on the tight side - apologies to our neighbours as I bashed by arms on the sides every morning. The double bed was a fixed base unit with one person against the wall - again, cue some knee & arm bashing when turning over, so keep this in mind if you're used to a bigger bed or are a messy sleeper.
The accommodation was probably better than we expected (knowing it was student accommodation and with my previous experience of student accommodation) with a bright, good sized room which had plenty of storage space and as we chose a studio, we also had a small ceramic hob, microwave, kettle and sink/basin. Staff were friendly & efficient and we had no problems with noise from other rooms. As locations go, this was fine - 15-20 mins easy walk to Princes Street & Waverley Railway Station, a tram stop at the door and bus stops within about 50m - but also plenty of local food/drink, shopping right outside the door.
