The building leaves a little to be desired in terms of overall upkeep but I suspect this has to do with the age of the property. Facilities, particularly the bathrooms, have been somewhat hit and miss in the past.

Extremely affordable hostel for a very central York location. I have stayed at this property numerous times and never had a bad experience. Privacy curtains on the bed are a big plus; bafflingly a lot of hostels still don’t have them! The breakfast is decent enough and similarly affordable. Check-in has always been hassle free and the staff are friendly. If you don’t mind staying in shared accommodation then this hostel/hotel is ideal for a night out or for concerts or events in town. Haven’t stayed in their private rooms but know they do offer them too!

No decent common room apart from the bar. The bathroom in the dorm was tiny, the hand soap was soooo diluted maybe in order for them to save money and there are only 2 outlets for.the whole room.. The mattress was very old and noisy, the luggage storage is paid, the towel is paid, no lent hairdryer, and no common kitchen, so for the price you pay and the service you got.I think it was quite expensive.

The location is perfect between the train station.and the old town. The building itself is nice and very well decorated. The staff was nice. And the room was clean.

Can I make a suggestion of selling shower gel toothpaste a basic toothbrush and also to suggest a towel rental service of £2 as an additional asset and service to your company and to having them at sale value Can I also suggest putting a mop nearby the shower facilities so people have the option to clean the floor after use foot 👣 infection like athletes foot is very easily spread And while the facilities of plug sockets are available and also the sale usb phone charger wires are available ther was no sale of usb plugs maybe that could be a suggestion of securing more assets and an addition to improve services for costumer comfort and convenience Please if there anything else you feel I could help with and suggest please contact me thank you for my stay 🙂

The only let down was the bedding in the rooms. There was no mattress protector and the quilt and pillows were very flimsy. Ok for one night though. There is no lift in the property.

A beautiful building with lots of charm and original features. We liked the plaques indicating who used to stay in the rooms or what each particular room was used for. Gorgeous sweeping staircase. The rooms were adequate and clean although the en-suite was very small.

I've used a similar bunkhouse in Cardiff, and for me it's now OK paying more for the privacy of my own room- no snoring, and nobody waking someone to move out of the lower-bunk they've booked to accommodate their mobility! Breakfast had a good variety of cereals, but the fruit bowl only had apples! Staff very welcoming.

NO WIFI most of the time! They did move my room after a few days but if you work online and need a connection this place is NOT for you. NO hot water in my room the last few days. Cold showers.

I didn't get a choice on bottom or top bunk and struggled a little bit climbing in and out. There seemed to be a problem booking as my friend was asked to stay in a separate room even though I booked it for us both at the same time.

Lovely decor, very friendly staff, knowledgeable of the area, near train station, just what I needed for 1 night stay, even though top bunk was v comfortable and clean. Like the idea of curtains around the bunk for privacy. Easy check in and out.

The charging socket was not properly provided for the bunks at the up, so it's not convenient to charge phone or computer at the upper bunk.

The safe things under the bed were a bit clunky and loud, toilet wasn't that sound proof.

The hotel reception was very friendly, the people in the rooms were all nice and not scary. Loved how close it was to the city centre and the decor inside is lovely and arty. Really nice place I always struggle sleeping anyway, I did also like the curtains on the beds.

Out of eight bunks I had to have the only one below a snorer and inconsiderate drunken individual whose phone alarm was continuing to ring. Thankfully karma played a big part and he dropped it from his bunk smashing on the floor.

Cleanliness and staff, bunk beds were very comfortable and room warm and clean. Amenities were excellent and the hotel was very bright and cheerful.

Noisy residents, had 3 arguments between them whilst I sat with curtains closed. Noise until 2am, lights in all night, illness in toilets and water on the floors. Not the fault of the property, just lazy and inconsiderate guests.

Curtains in beds is always a good idea. Available lockers underneath (bring your own lock or you can purchase for £5 downstairs) and the lights on the wall. Great social hub if wanting to meet others. Very close to everything central, brilliant for anyone needing to be central.
