On arrival on a very hot evening, we struggled to open the windows which were wooden and had probably expanded in the heat. But on one of the hottest days of the year so far, the cottage felt stuffy and we were unable to get any ventilation. The following morning we had no hot water. It could’ve been our error with working the boiler properly, but it would be helpful to have clear instructions in the boiler cupboard itself. Finally, the luxury feel of the cottage was let down by the polyester duvets and pillows. This may be a personal choice as allergies can affect many but even so, the bedding was not high quality. I have shared my views with the owners who were courteous and helpful. I am sure they will rectify these issues and then we would definitely stay again.

This is a lovely cottage that has been beautifully renovated with quality fixtures and fittings. We loved the wood burner, comfy sofa and well appointed kitchen including nice touches like milk in the fridge, tea and coffee in the cupboard and washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets provided. This is so helpful when you’re self catering. As a family with limited mobility, the layout of the cottage worked well for us. It has a downstairs toilet plus a bathroom upstairs adjacent to the two double bedrooms with a shower cubicle as well as a separate bath tub. The cottage was perfectly located in the charming Main Street of Hatherleigh amongst other “chocolate box” thatched cottages. It was easy to park right outside and there was a handy Co-op opposite, which provided us with freshly baked goods when it opened at 7am on the Sunday morning. We also enjoyed a meal at the George pub,a delightful historic coaching inn just a short stroll up the Main Street.
