How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

We would have preferred to not have carpet everywhere.
The location was super, in 2min you were inside the trainstation. They let us take our bikes into the room, for which we used the elevator one by one. The breakfast (14€/pp) was very diverse and good! Also, cheap price for the stay (less than 40€/night).

We arrived at breakfast at 9am. It was a little disappointing that the staff did not re-supply the cooked breakfast tureens but overall we enjoyed breakfast.
The room was adequate. The double glazing was excellent. We couldn't hear a pretty busy road outside. The bar and dining room area was beyond expectation and was a little bit of the 'grand' in the hotel name. We had pre-booked dinner and the table d'hote was superb.

No catering on a Saturday. Originally booked a Half Board Saturday night stay, only to be informed afterwards that their kitchen would not be open during our stay! So cancelled and rebooked the cheaper Bed & Breakfast option. The private parking option as stated on Booking.com was non apparent. When enquired about at check in I was informed all parking was free on-street. ! was slightly concerned about unsecured on-street parking initially and was right to be so. In the morning I found my car had been vandalised overnight having the rear wiper snapped off.
Room was a good size with a very comfortable large bed. Huge smart TV and tea & coffee in the room. Nice buffet breakfast.

If you went for hot breakfast after 9.15 the chances are some items had run out and when asked staff they said that’s it. I’m not blaming staff it seems it hotel policy

Bed comfort was average or slightly lover.
Rooms are dated as the whole hotel, but clean. Location is the best if you travel with public transport.

Surprised to find no pillow slips on the bed and instead both pillows wrapped around by a folded sheet that really does not work, if you want one pillow on top of another. Also paper cups in the rooms for water and hot drinks a bit of a downer.
I always enjoy staying at Le Grand, great location, restaurant which was good but not as good as I remember, but the breakfast options are great. Superb friendly staff are its strength.

Nice and spacious room with an extra salon. The table was large enough in order to work comfortably with a laptop.

The hotel is in a renovation mode and that takes time. I have less patients for that.
Close to the center and a nice walk possible to discover the center too. The breakfast is in a nice renovated room. Enjoyable to eat and the food is correct.

The hotel shows it's age but as long as it's clean and the staff is friendly, you can't complain. Beds are on the (too) soft side.
Location is the best there is in Valenciennes, as it's just across the railway station so you don't loose any time & money with transport.

Very little choice of warm means in the restaurant. Noisy street Av. Foch - better to book rooms on the other side of the hotel.

Top tip don't go past the train station to the right...not a great area.
Good basic hotel, good value for money. Room was basic but adequate (strange carpet on the walls 😆) staff friendly and helpful. Secure parking spaces for motorcycles. Good location for exploring the city... which is going to be great when work is finished.

Everything was good apart from outside the hotel where when parking under the trees next morning the car was covered in bird droppings from the sterling’s roosting above.

Decor is a little dated. Shower over bath was not ideal for my elderly mother
We had a superior twin which was huge and more like a suite. We were traveling with a dog so great that he could stay.

I liked the old school vibe of the place. They stored my bike securely and the personal was very friendly. The room had a kettle and tea.
