Rooms were a bit small but not an issue for us

It had a big social area with tables, was a comfy place to chill. the free breakfast was filling, clean kitchen, the staff were very friendly and always cleaning. Big lockers for our stuff. Cold filtered water available which was amaaaaazing!!

There was a bed bug situation while I was there. The staff and volunteers were handling it in a very professional manner and taking every step to deal with it appropriately. It didn’t impact my stay at the hostel

You feel home immediately at Mahalao Hostel! The staff is so lovely, all the facilities are super clean and the breakfast was delicious! I can only recommend to stay at this place.

Everything was great

Mahalo is the perfect place for stay in Ilha Grande. After a month and a half of staying I can say that everything was perfect. Perfect location, perfect breakfast, super comfy rooms, and of course- Gonza, the owner that really makes you feel welcomed and home. For sure going to come back!

I loved the structure, the beds really comfortable, the shared places as the kitchen and the living room always clean and full of utilities. But most important thing, that I’m always looking for, is the vibe, The people who work and volunteer welcomed me with kindness and love from the first moment. Always available and ready to help you if you need it. I loved everything. I recommend to everyone!

Excellent location, so clean, such nice staff, such a nice owner and very beautiful cat, nice hammock which I finally sat on even though I’m paranoid, it can even hold two people- and such nice breakfast and good coffee. Very pretty building, very chill, no key cards and stress or spending half the day climbing stairs. Beautiful place and people, I will miss it!

Perfect location in the town center and next to big supermarket, super cosy, clean rooms, very comfortable beds and very kind and friendly staff that are always happy to help with any issue. also one of a few places on the island that have free breakfast and have female dorms. Loved it!

The breakfast is simple, would like to see some more options. On rainy days not much to do in the hostel.

The location is perfect in the centre. I had a private room and this was very clean and has enough space for two persons.

the atmosphere is very friendly. everything that you would expect from an excellent hostel. The staff are fantastic! every single one of them. Gonze saved my trip, I had forgotten my card and left the island, he did everything he could and made sure that I’d receive my card in time before my flight. (they’re also available and speak good English, whatever I needed, I just had to ask) I highly recommend it.

The ppl there are amazing!! They helped me a lot during my stay, muito obrigado Carolina, Luiza and Gonza. The kitchen is very well equipped. The room was fine and the cleanliness was excellent.

5 bed female dormitory is extremely cramped! There is not even really enough space for everyone's backpack. The bunkbeds have not a lot of space inbetween them. There is generally not a lot of space anywhere. Pillow smelled weird. For the usual price it's maybe okay but for R80 during Semana Santa it's not a good value.

Breakfast was delicious, lots of food and they will even give you more if you ask. As clean as hostels gets, very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds with electric plugs in it. Quiet area and central location, restaurants and shops are all nearby. Nice structure as well with open area and equipped kitchen. Free water is also nice :))
