Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The guests, the volunteers and the owner are friendly! Special thanks to Lohayne, who helped me by speaking English :) Location is good - near supermarkets and the bus stations to go to Paraty or Itamambuca. I stayed one night in the private room, and it's very big and comfy.

GermanyThe beaches nearby are a bit disappointing.
Clean, comfortable, good vibes, great kitchen and terrace, extremely fast WiFi everywhere (beyond 200mb/s). The owners are super friendly. Supermarkets and restaurants within 5 minute walk, good and central location except that the beaches around are a bit disappointing. Overall one of the best Hostels I've seen in Brazil and definitely the best value for money. Happy to come back!

United Stateseverything was good.
I had a great stay at Marujo hostel. The hostel is centraly located and several of the beaches are withing walking distance. The rooms are very clean and well taken care of, and the beds are comfortable. The property has plenty of open space. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful with tourist suggestions. I would stay here again when in Ubatuba.

BrazilThe kitchen is very small for the amount of tourists and workaway volunteers. I think because it is main run by the volunteers, and they are there for short time, there is no good vibe from them. They don't interact, barely give some directions. The nearest beach is not appropriate to swim. The location of the hostel is quite far from the city center. I didn't have good experience and I would not recommend this place to stay in Ubatuba.
The beds were comfy.

United KingdomI meant to book for Christmas after someone told me things sell out. I booked the wrong instead but they charged upfront. I wanted to cancel but would have lost the money so decided to try it. The staff were racist, not any other foreign tourists. One especially was glaring at me from the moment I walked in and stared constantly. He was very intimidating. On the second morning he put sugar in the morning coffee and said I can’t make another and when someone else asked he said I can’t speak Spanish or Portuguese and said he didn’t know when I asked which direction the place I wanted to go with. I couldn’t get an Uber. Just as I checked out early 5 men said I need to take my suitcase with as the service ended but I planned to travel in the evening. So I had to make a snap decision and cancel what I wanted to see. I traveled 4 hours in the strongest heat and was very sick, broke my suitcase from the rush and hurt my foot, I could see they looked aggressive so just left. Never has a hostel said you can’t leave a suitcase till your bus, and I always travel in the evening. This accidental booking almost ruined my trip in Brazil. Horrid location even though close to bus station, I booked under panic and left gorgeous Paraty, I arrived in the evening. The hostel I left clearly let me keep my suitcase so for them to claim they don’t allow that was shocking for a backpackers. I and had no working sim and the guy got angry when I asked for help as the app was all Portuguese. I wish I had known no international tourists stay there. Never have I felt so unsafe. Below are pictures of me asking to change dates and the lie that it was 400 for Christmas Eve. He also had no idea wether buses go in brazil on Christmas. Turns out everything but private businesses run. Extremely malicious people

FranceThe hostel is just near the fish market and while the inside smells nice thanks to the incense, the outside areas can get smelly. The private rooms are in the common courtyard and have no windows, so the noise can get a bit problematic from the bathrooms and outside tables.
Clean hostel, nice and efficient staff.
