Location 10 minutes to Hoedspruit town. Unless giraffes are standing in the road, which could mean a short delay. Gated “soft game” wildlife estate. Soft game means that there are no lions, elephant or other dangerous animals. However giraffes, warthogs, porcupine, sable and other antelope, etc. roam the reserve. We had duiker and porcupine out our sliding door, warthog and sable at breakfast. Great place to relax a few days getting over jet-lag before going into Kruger (like we have done many times) or before visiting a posh big five reserve - because why spend a fortune when you are too jet lagged to appreciate it.

Literally everything was great! I could not have wished for a better way to experience the South African hospitality and the bush life. Thanks to our hosts Nyarai and Tawanda, who took great care of us and our wishes/needs before and during our stay, we had a carefree and super comfortable experience. The safaris and tours they booked for us were amazing and really saved us a lot of time looking for good and reliable tour guides. Leave it to them, they really know what they are doing and they will not disappoint! The foods prepared by the chefs were amazing, a true pleasure for the tastebuds. Gluten free dinners were no problem at all and it was much more than just some plain and simple dishes, but truly culinary treats for the soul. The room was in super condition, modern but with respect for the bush surrounding the area. Very good and modern amenities inside the room and the lodge. Sometimes some animals passed the accommodation and that really felt like watching a documentary, but then in real life. Even being able to watch the animals passing by from our bed through the big glass sliding door is something that never gets boring. Great swimming pool and watch tower from where you could see the surrounding area and witness the beautiful sunrise while listening to the peaceful animal sounds coming to life more and more every minute it gets lighter. After dinner we had camp fires, where we could sit and enjoy each other’s company. This was a huge plus because these moments create the best conversations and memories with each other. All together we can say that this is something we will talk about for a very long time. There is much more to see here and the staff made us feel like family, so both are definitely worth coming back and we definitely will. We give this place an 11 out of 10!

Kapama River lodge is truly the getaway you need and deserve - Staff are amazing, kind, courteous and caring - The kitchen staff catered for all diets and their food was amazing, it was like having fine dining every evening - Our rooms were exceptional (we were lucky enough to have the Royal suite) which had an amazing view and was large and comfortable - Facilities were great, with a well kitted gym and fantastic spa - Game drives were excellent, our ranger was knowledgeable and a constant source of entertaining information. We were lucky enough to not only experience the big 5 but also gain a better understanding of the ecology and flora around the lodge - Location from Hoedspruit airport is almost a stone throw, the airport is literally across the entrace to the lodge.

Exceptional service in an exceptional location. once you’ve done a safari in a private reserve you will never look back, and this is the best lodge in the best reserve. Made to feel very special, all the staff knew our names from the moment we arrived. Game drives all stunning, good fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. already plotting our return, and this time we will bring friends and family to share it with. Justice and Elvis were the best of hosts on the game drives.

She listened to us and helped us find the animals we were hoping to see. Marataba made our honeymoon awesome. It's truly one of the best hotels we've ever been to. I went to Bela Bela to continue my memory trip . I remembered Warmbaths 25 years ago, and was so disappointed. The streets were dirty, the pavements broken, the little town full of load music I will definitely not go there again. Will only use as a sleep over

I like the place because it is very quiet, one had a rest without any noise. The place is very near to Savannah Mall and we ate at Nando's. What i did not like is the restriction of lights at night, some of us we are students and study at night and the was no provision of a small table and a chair, such should be corrected.

A great location for some rest and relaxation.

A great location for some rest and relaxation. I went on a Big 5 safari game drive, and got to see the animals up close. I also had a heavenly spa experience at Karuna, and visited the nearby reptile park to see some rare snake species. Lots of restaurants around to try out a variety of meals, I went to the Club House and had tasty ribs. Then the breakfast at Aragula is to die for.

The view is out of this world .

The view is out of this world .Yousee the beauty of nature and the quiet moment where nothing matters but Nature only.. Travelling though Mogobaskloef is one experience that everyone will never regret The city is also very clean and that is commendable. Hiking is one activity that one can do It is very easy to move around Tzaneen and there are plenty of locations that you can enjoy delicious meals

Our first family trip was beautiful and we did notice after booking that it’s not a self catering accommodation but a braai area for such a place will make the stay even more worthwhile. I didn’t like the beds we slept on they were just uncomfortable.

Phalaborwa as a town was a deep disappointment.

Phalaborwa as a town was a deep disappointment. The roads are in a very bad state and the general condition of the streets, pavements and rubbish lying around is a disgrace for the municipality. There are no streetlights working and the overall deterioration of the town is the last thing one wants to show overseas visitors. The tar road leading to the Kruger gate is obviously in a good condition but that is all. The Pick and Pay and the Spur are closed due to a fire incident and there are not a lot of restaurants to go to dinner for.

This is a good stopover, particularly for overseas tourists who will thoroughly enjoy the serene beauty of the reserve and the freedom to walk around. The surroundings are relaxing and the staff very pleasant and informative.

The owner should consider removing all those concrete bed...

The owner should consider removing all those concrete bed base,they are so uncomfortable and if you lose concentration moving around those small rooms you can easily get injured.The shower and toilets are so small ,it is difficult to move around. I was booked for two nights but slept for only night and had to find alternative accomodation.They also have an entertainment area so on sunday the 27th April 2025,they play loud music as early as 10h00.

The place is in urgent need of an upgrade.

The place is in urgent need of an upgrade. Almost all the kitchen items were dirty. The pots and pans were old and scratched. The knives were blunt. The dishwasher was broken. The bathroom mats looked like they belonged outside. The grill was rusty. The microwave is extremely old. The living room couches were terribly dirty, and the cushions were worn out and flat. The owner’s personal belongings, like cool boxes, were scattered around. The tap at the kitchen counter had no running water. The shower mats were mouldy. The advertisement of the rooms on the website did not match what we got. The single beds were extremely hard, and the bedding was old. The dishwasher was extremely dirty, mouldy, and broken. The pool cues had no tips. And I could go on and on!@
