United KingdomThis place is a step back in time and is amazing. The owners are the some of the nicest people you can ever hope to meet. I arrived on a Sunday during a motorcycle trip through Cape and had managed to get a puncture. It didnt take long for the owner to have the bike in their own workshop wheel off and on it way to being repaired. The hotel is actively involved in the motorcycle scene in the area was soon introduced to other who came to chat Motorcycle travel. What an awesome evening and a great sleep.

United KingdomWe loved the quirkiness of the hotel that was its real charm. The art on the walls and all the decor had real charm and character.
There is a proper bar area where on one evening they had a very good pianist playing. You definitely get the feeling that the hotel is something of a hub for the village and community and a lot of activity centres around it.
Some of the rooms are bigger and nicer than others, and we were able to change ours to a nicer more spacious
one.
Staff were very accommodating
and helpful and we’re able to advise and arrange lots for us to do- on that don’t miss a dip in the local fresh water river - a wonderful start to our day!
Breakfast was really delicious with lots of variety.
Garden and pool area was very pretty and a lovely place to relax as well.

The pool was well kept and maintained. We could just drop the keys in the box when we left. The rooms have aircon which was a life saver during the December heatwaves.

Loved the big sparkly pool, loved the large Veranda and decor. The outside Bar was a bonus as we were served drinks from our sun-loungers.
Eating breakfast out here was also divine. It gives you a Resort type feel. The bedrooms are extra spacious and tastefully decorated with solid / quality furniture. You feel like royalty staying at this premise. Especially the staff (Superman) make you feel like a million dollars with their exceptional service!
Highly recommend this place and will most certainly return.

Perfect Safari experience on the private game reserve. We nearly saw all of the Big 5 and many other animals. The animals are in general very relaxed because Sanbona is a non profit organization and therefore the pressure on the animals is held on a low level with limited people and trucks. The ranger was well educated and taught us many interesting things. The tented lodge was very beautiful. Highly recommendable!

A wonderful accommodation in a quiet location surrounded by beautiful nature. The charlets are tastefully furnished. The breakfast and dinner are really delicious! Varley and his wife are wonderful hosts and warm people who went above and beyond to help and support us in a minor medical "emergency"! Thank you for that!!! We can highly recommend them!

It is my 3rd time there. Quite place, complimentary liqueur, huge bathroom, fireplace, hitting sheet and many another small things. Good restaurant for dinner with big choice local beer, wine, gin. Ostrich steak and springbok carpacho was delicious. Meerkats visiting really need to book in advance

Oudtshoorn is a beautiful town, so much to offer day and night. many attractions in and around town which are definite must do items. Mostly the people of Oudtshoorn are humble and friendly. Amenities are super easy to find and always close by. Love this town. Le Dolce Vita very cozy, Karoopot, Karoo Markt, all are great places. Pricing well within budget

Unfortunately, we were there on a Monday and most restaurants close at 17:00 on a Monday. However, our host recommended we have dinner at the Karoo Art Hotel with a choice of fine dining or pub dinner. We choose pub dinner, which was delicious. Beautiful trail walks can be found around the farms. All-in-all a wonderful trip.

The only negative is the number of young coloured men asking to do and be useful when theyo are not required to do anything. One feels badgered.

We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale,...
We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale, because when we arrived at the locked farm gate, we found there was no reception. We couldn't reach him, and it was soon getting dark, so we had to keep driving until we got signal again, which only took five minutes. Wann, the manager, was soon there and opened the gate to paradise for us... remote, behind two other farms, we were able to spend comfortable days in this Karoo resort. Wann was always available, and one evening his wife cooked us a delicious meal. A river, a hot tub, an ice bath, peace and quiet, and an endless sky—what more could you want? This is the place to be for anyone needing a break. For more romance, under the stars, bring candles and reading lamps.

The area surrounding De Rust is beautiful, especially the mountain passes, which have stunning scenery and lots of hiking opportunities. There are very few shops or restaurants in De Rust, but Oudtshoorn is just a easy 30km drive away and this has plenty of shops, restaurants and activities. Staying on a farm between the Meiringspoort pass and De Rust was perfect though. Just buy plenty of groceries before you get there!

Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise - so convenient . Also we had not been there before so it made an interesting stop over. Scenery was stunning and the road excellent. Hotel built in 1832 (I understand). Uniondale is about 14 kms off main road and entry and exit are through two mountain passes which were most attractive.

From the main road it looks like just another dusty deserted Karoo town. What a pleasant surprise on turning off into the little town. We had a superb breakfast at @Stuff and met some interesting locals. The town is experiencing a resurgence and is intersting, well maintained and spotlessly clean.

It was so relaxing. Great pool. Room had everything you needed Lovely staff and it was also lovely to relax at night and have dinner at the hotel. Food was to our liking. Enjoyed our stay so much we extended it an extra night.

Had a fantastic toasted sandwich at the restaurant before the tour and a cold beer after the tour and so pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the nature.

Lovely quiet country village.
Lovely quiet country village. Interesting little shops & great 2nd hand bookshop. Great walks/hikes & excellent restaurants (highly recommend "Mud"). Lots of interesting history.
