Our overnight stay was exceptional! The attention to detail and top-notch service is clearly evident at his hotel – a typical old-world style – don’t expect modern –we enjoyed the yesteryear feeling with comfort and top notch service. The breakfast was a standout feature, offering freshly prepared Karoo boerewors, eggs cooked to perfection, and homemade bread (amongst others). Dinner was equally impressive, showcasing authentic Karoo fare. The bobotie was traditional, the lamb chops were tender and flavourful, and the steaks (looked delicious from others that ordered them). Portion sizes were generous, and every meal was served with a smile and a touch of love. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully appointed, making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. A special mention must go to Elsabe, the super host who made us feel truly at home. Her impeccable hospitality and willingness to go the extra mile added to our wonderful experience. The lovely pool was a delightful retreat—a perfect spot to cool off and unwind. We can't wait to return!

After a long drive from Botswana that's what we needed a comfortable and clean place with all that you need for self catering. Fridge was filled with drinks which came with a price list. Welcomed with a freshly baked ciabatta bread and butter. Comfortable bed and excellent bedding. Will definetly come back to stay. Thank you Alet

What an unforgettable stay! Lemoen Fontein has the most incredible atmosphere — as far as the eye can see there are stones, bushes, and a koppie in the background, and then suddenly you arrive at a beautiful old farmhouse surrounded by a lush garden and big trees. It truly feels like an oasis in the middle of the Karoo. The dogs and cats on the farm made it even more special, and we loved that it is a dog-friendly place. Dinner was absolutely wonderful — real home-cooked farm food served on a large veranda with the most breathtaking view. After dinner, a giraffe came right up to the house to eat leaves. It was so close we could almost touch it! An unbelievable and memorable experience — we have never been that close to a giraffe before. Our room was spotless, comfortable, beautifully furnished, and had a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. The extra-large bed was extremely comfortable. We had an amazing stay and would highly recommend Lemoen Fontein to anyone looking for a peaceful, unique, and truly special Karoo experience.

Impeccable on any level, doesn't get better than this. Everything neatly cured and a million precious details to discover. There's even a complementary sip of sherry waiting on the night stand. Amazing staff and Tracy is the real gem of this place that will make you forget all of your woes and worries. Amazing doorThanks again for taking such good care of me.

History behind the town and the location is great. Makes the following day's travel short and gives you time to stop along the route at the other towns. Recommend travellers book Beaufort as part of their trip.

The village is charming and typical of a Karoo town. Two nights and a day to see everything is adequate. It's preferable to choose accommodation in the village allowing one to walk to the various places of interest.

It was lovely to be part of an awesome and rich history and to explore the museum, transport museum and the whole little town - so very interesting and one can walk through the whole town within an hour! The Hotel and pub were outstanding with their meals. It was great to go on the world's shortest tour on the red bus. It is full of such an interesting history and everything makes one feel that one is back in the 1800's but at the same time it is a peaceful town where one could truly "rest"! Unfortunately we didn't see/hear any ghosts and we were not able to see inside the Courthouse, Pink Chapel, Logan's Tweedside Lodge and Schreiber's cottage! We also couldn't find the cemetry.

A quaint and quirky little town in the Karoo, famed for its terrible flash flood in 1981, which killed 104 residents, and all but wiped out the town. We tried to visit the Flood Museum but it turned out to be closed on Friday afternoons, which was exactly when we went to visit it. The Grand Hotel was wonderful! We had the best pizzas ever there on Friday evening (pizza night!) and it was such a friendly place. We were in Laingsburg for the Laingsburg Karoo Maratohn, a delightful low key running event thought the truly spectacular stunningly beautuful scenery of the Karoo. We loved it!

We always sleep over at Travalia when traveling to Cape Town, it is a welcome rest after a long day on the road. Rooms are great and you can even arrange to have a braai at your chalet, they light the fire and provide meat, salads and "braaibroodjies"

Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise - so convenient . Also we had not been there before so it made an interesting stop over. Scenery was stunning and the road excellent. Hotel built in 1832 (I understand). Uniondale is about 14 kms off main road and entry and exit are through two mountain passes which were most attractive.

Wonderful location, beautiful renovation of old house.

Wonderful location, beautiful renovation of old house. Extremely well equipped kitchen and wonderful braai area. Be aware that the kitchen and braai patio are communal. There is only a kettle and microwave in the bedroom. The rooms are upstairs, all luggage must be carried up. Rooms are spartan except for very comfortable bed - no wardrobe, tables, chest of drawers. Shower is modern, spacious but not hot water. Beautiful walks on farm, peaceful and extremely restful. Fan in bedroom, insect repellent, but no heating facilities.

Merweville is a beautiful town! Friendly community.

Merweville is a beautiful town! Friendly community. The town is very clean and neat. The best coffee and breakfast at Die Boekklub with a shop to buy presents for family at home. There is a nougat factory as well - Karoo Blessings, unfortunately they were closed when we passed through, but we could find their yummy treats at "Die Boekklub" in town. The Graveyard is well looked after, we visited a family grave and we were very impressed! Everywhere you drive, people will greet you with a friendly smile! It gives you a warm feeling of caring! Loved the town.

Prince Albert is a beautifully well kept and maintained...

Prince Albert is a beautifully well kept and maintained small Karoo town at the foot of the Swartberg Pass. With many accommodation options, a number of really good restaurants and coffee shops, and art/curio shops, it is a wonderful place for a long weekend break, or an extended stay when passing through. We stayed at the Olive Thrush Cottage, just a short walk from the Main Street, and it was very peaceful and comfortable. We ate at the Rude Chef restaurant for dinner - very relaxed and with great food and a great vibe. The Swartberg Hotel is across the street is also excellent, with a groovy gin bar and very nice coffee shop. Walking around Prince Albert is the way to see the town properly, and visitors should include the short traverse up and along the Robert Gordon Koppie ridge walk which give amazing views of the surrounding mountains and of the town. It's an easy and short climb with a well marked path - highly recommended. When heading south from Prince Albert, we recommend taking the Swartberg Pass for the views - it is gravel and a bit steep in places with tight hairpin bends, but can be taken in a normal car - no need for 4x4.
