I born in Montevideo....It is always a nice clean friendly city...very relax ..nice food and helpful people. Nice shopping Malls Nice beaches.. Plenty history Good public transport Getting toghether with relatives , cousins and friends
I recommend Montevideo for its buildings and for enjoying architecture. People are relaxed and credit cards are widely accepted. Using an international (= non-Uruguayan) credit card in a restaurant will reduce your cost, because then local tax will be credited.
A wonderful city. So easy to get around. A great diversity in architecture. The Rambla is a great place for beach side exercise and people watching. The hop on hop off tourist bus is a great way to start your trip to understand Montevideo’s history and points of interest.
After the stress and bustle of BA, Montevideo was just what I needed. The city is very relaxed, on the artsy side, the people are extremely friendly, and it's very safe! You can see all the sights in one day, but stay a bit longer to enjoy the vibes and get to know some people at a bar with live music or one of the many different festivals and other events Montevideo has to offer! I recommend staying in the center, it's easy to reach the main bus terminal by public transport (bus line CA1) and all the sights are very walkable from here.
Montevideo is probably the most slow-paced and relaxed capital I've been to. It feels quite provincial, but in a nice way - it's a place to chill rather than live the high life. It's got a burgeoning artisanal food and drinks scene, live music and miles and miles of sunny coastline. My top tip? If you're a runner, go for a jog in the sun along the Rambla for lovely views a great sea (actually, river) breeze and to see how the locals hang out. There are also an extraordinary number of bookshops in the city, most or all of them (seemingly at least) independent. Finally, soak up the old world, vintage atmosphere by walking around the central and old town neighbourhoods - it's got a real 40's/50's feel to it. We stayed two nights but felt we could have easily stayed for 3-4 full days.
Montevideo is larger very laid back city. It has great walks along the river- fascinating architecture - several interesting historical museums. It is about a 2 hour trip to Punte del Este which I make a day trip for lunch when I am in Montevideo. There are a number of excellent restaurants with varied menus with emphasis on beef. There are 2 in the commercial square in the Old City.
Montevideo is an undiscovered jewel, it is expensive but wonderful. If you can speak Spanish and stay out the tourist traps I think it would be cheaper. Went into a lot of different neighborhoods nerves once did we fell unsafe. The smell of BBQ is everywhere, the meats, lamb (outstanding), pig, sausage and of course beef.
Montevideo é uma cidade tranquila, bonita, com pessoas muito gentis. Viajei com crianças de 4 e 9 anos e eles se divertiram bastante. Só a liberdade de correr pela rambla já é legal.
I was warned that I would find Montevideo a little boring after BA but if that's boring I like being bored, people laid back and happy, good beaches good food great architecture
Montevideo is worth exploring due to its history and people. 1, full-day is enough to do some sightseeing. We recommend doing Curioso Free (walking) Tour. Our tour guide Gerardo Traiman was very knowledgeable and fun. He kept us very engaged. You can also choose to do a day trip to Punta del Este.
Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo
Very central location, directly next to the main square and Solís theatre. The conversations with the owners were always nice and easy via WhatsApp. Check-in was very simple and they even let us stay some extra hours after check-out, as our bus onwards was only in the evening. The view from the apartment is fantastic! There are plenty of options around, with a supermarket and a pharmacy in the same complex and old town with cafés and restaurants right around the corner. We couldn't have had a better stay in Montevideo
Pocitos, Montevideo
The hosts here are FANTASTIC. Some of the nicest people that we met in Uruguay. They are incredibly friendly, helpful, and honestly cool people. They make you feel like they are your best friend. The room was great. Everything was comfortable and very clean. The shower had good pressure and hot water. The location is good and there are lots of great restaurants and stores nearby. I have no complaints and will without a doubt stay here the next time I am in Montevideo.
Montevideo
Excellent apartment. Very clean, well equipped, comfortable bed, nice big terrace. It has a personal touch; e.g. an interesting library instead of depersonalized decorations. It is located close to a Parliament building (which at the time of our stay hosted the 5th Montevideo Bienal), the university area and some alternative cultural spaces (excellent exhibition in Contemporary Art Space – EAC, located in the former Miguelete prison). The owner was really very kind.
Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo
Hostel Viajero is the best option for digital nomads in Montevideo, the relationship between price and comfort is incomparable with other places in Montevideo, the treatment of Facu, Michelle, Hernan and JuanMa at the reception is simply unique, the cleaning staff It keeps the Hostel in an extraordinary state, the breakfasts are very good and the facilities of the place are incredible, the wooden elevator and the terrace, everything is simply spectacular
Very large and comfortable room with a good bed, large bathroom with good shower, and a kitchenette with fridge. Wifi worked very well. It's great that we could make use of one of the free parking spaces the hotel has in a garage just around the corner. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good location in the centre of Montevideo. The main squares and attractions are on walking distance from the hotel.
Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo
Spacious, comfortable room. We very much enjoyed the sauna and the pool, which we used to cool down from the sauna! The location is very central, close to several attractions and museums. There is a small functional kitchen in the apartment, which is a real bonus. Staff recommend us a fabulous restaurant, which we loved. We’ll definitely stay here again when in Montevideo.
This is our go-to hotel in Montevideo and our third time staying here. The heated pool is very nice, rooms are spacious, comfortable bed. Good, if pricey, breakfast. Maids were pleasant and accommodating to our erratic schedule. The travel museum in the lobby is interesting. Great location a block from Plaza Independencia and the Old City. Quiet at night, no street noise.
A great hotel near Main Street, but absolutely nothing to do in Montevideo… we thought we’d go across in ferry to Montevideo from Buenes Aires… stayed here 3 days but dead streets and no tourism. Hotel staff are super, breakfast was ok - only down side was single bed sized… they were like only 2.5 foot wide and not big enough for us 6 footers… otherwise all good…
Montevideo
The apartment was absolutely great! Very clean, spacious, bright and perfectly located not that far from downtown Montevideo with plenty of stores nearby. The host was amazing, she was very kind and attentive. It has all the appliances to cook and wash your clothes so it was very convenient. If we go back to Montevideo, we'd love to stay there again.
Hotel is in a early 20th century or maybe late 19 century building, which is maintained well. Room was priced very well; I don't think there is another hotel existing in Montevideo matching the price they offer. Room was large enough, decorated with authentic furniture matching the building's era. Staff was very pleasant and helpful.
This was my second stay at the Oxford Hotel and I must say that on both occasions the service was excellent, the room and the hotel, in general, were very pleasant and comfortable, and the breakfast was very good. Excellent option to stay in Montevideo and great price-quality ratio. Highly recommended.
I loved the Hotel location! It was close to Punta Carretas Shopping Mall and there were lots of options to have dinner and to buy some stuff. From the Hotel it was easy to go anywhere in Montevideo and it was also close to the beach. The WiFi was great and free. The room was enormous and comfortable.
Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo
Everything about this hotel is wonderful. The decor is impeccable (smartly selected midcentury furniture from Buenos Aires) and the hotel is located right in the center of old Montevideo. Jeronimo is very accommodating and has great recommendations for places to eat and things to see.
The location is ideal, the customer service was top notch, the room I stayed in was quiet, soothing and super-clean. You could, of course, pay more to stay at another place, which perhaps has fancier towels. Hotel Casablanca will always be an option whenever I am in Montevideo.
This hotel is by far one of my favourite hotels I’ve stayed in, the detail in the rooms about different famous Uruguayans was lovely, the staff couldn’t be more helpful, the breakfast was the cutest breakfast I’ve ever had! it’s the only hotel you should stay in in Montevideo!
The Hotel is affordable for smaller budgets and located within walking distance to the Buquebus ferry terminal, so its a perfect hub for those coming from or going to Uruguay. Also, it right in the middle of the historic city center and allows to discover Montevideo easily
Very conveniently located if you need to be near the bus station. Clean room. Comfortable bed and good shower. Toiletries are decent quality for the level of hotel. This is my favorite hotel in Montevideo if I'm in transit (if the price is right as it can vary a bit)
Pocitos, Montevideo
Location exceptional, safe, and beautiful neighborhood, and just 4 blocks away from a trendy beach. The staff was very friendly, hanging out with us whenever possible, and the breakfast was ok (the price was good, considering Montevideo's prices).
Great location, in front of a restaurant, a good burger and besides a bar. And there’s no noise, incredibly! 200 meters from the mall. There are bikes to rent in front of the Hotel (12 dolars for 24 hs). It’s nice to ride along Montevideo’s rambla.
This a wonderful hotel in the centre of the city . Perfect to spend a few days exploring Montevideo . The hotel is a bit old and you can see it but it’s still quite well maintained . The staff were especially nice and very helpful
