I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The property is located right on a beautiful sandy beach with crystal-clear turquoise waters, making it the perfect spot to relax. The room was spacious and exceeded my expectations, and the bathroom was equally roomy. The water pressure was great, and I had a lovely sea view from the balcony. Internet was fast and reliable throughout my stay, which made working remotely a breeze. Plus, the hotel has a generator, so there were no issues with power outages. During the day, I enjoyed working in a quiet, shaded area of the hotel, and in the evenings, I dined on fresh seafood with wine right on the patio by the sea—such a special experience. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful, providing a detailed note with local price tips to avoid being overcharged, and sharing some great information about the island. I liked the relaxing and calm atmosphere of the place. Guests live there but there is always more than enough space for everyone. The management is super friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with whatever request you have. The beach is very close and you will get a beach towel for free. The food is very tasty and the prices are very reasonable. I kept coming to this hotel for lunches and dinners even after I checked out and moved in to another area. The hotel is new, so it is very clean and cozy around. The interior design of the rooms is very beautiful. I would definitely stay there again!

Everything at the hotel was exceptional. Staff were amazing and impeccable . The rooms were really clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. The buffet meals were really diverse, delicious and we found them excellent and didn't have the need to try the other restaurants. Beach was absolutely gorgeous- it didn't matter low or high tide, we could use it any time of the day. Absolutely recommend!

Fantastic property, friendly and hospitable staff, good location, lovely beach. We stayed in the Villa with Private Pool. The size of the villa was big with two separate rooms and two showers. It also has a large sitting area outside next to the pool. The size of the private pool is quite big. We were half board. The food and variety at Breakfast & Dinner was good.

Beautiful beach with a decent selection of restaurants and bars. I loved the Fish Market restaurant and kept going back. Amazing blue sea, powder soft sand and great location for sunset. As a female solo traveller I didn’t like constant hassle from men dressed as Masai.

Matemwe is a perfect destination for anyone who wants peace and quiet, but still has access to great activities. You can easily arrange dolphin watching and swimming tours – look for Captain Lucho, he helped us with everything and made the experience amazing. A beautiful and relaxing place to stay!

Kendwa beach was definitely the best beach compared to...

Kendwa beach was definitely the best beach compared to Nungwi, especially the south part. Even in low tide it was easy to take a swim. Also the beach here is wider and feel less crowded. As on the complete stretch there were many people trying to sell you stuff but on the south part not so many ”permanent” sales people other than the ones having sheds. The Maasai roaming around are friendly but just say no with a smile and most will not be persistent in their effort to sell you something..

Generally, a lovely and intimate establishment with staff that care for your personal needs. The manager is so friendly and always wants to know how the guests are doing. The most beautiful sunrises. The performances add to the spice. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

There are a lot of hidden costs when coming to Nungwi.

There are a lot of hidden costs when coming to Nungwi. If you book any excursions, be prepared to pay double what you book for as they add on conservancy and entry fees on top. The beaches are not the crystal clear blue that you think. The beaches are highly affected by the tides. When it is low tide the beach is covered with seaweed and the water is too far out for you to swim. You only get to swim for a few hours a day when it is in high tide. If I were booking to come back to Zanzibar, go to Paje!!

Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

If you are looking for white sand beach with the best ocean...

If you are looking for white sand beach with the best ocean waters and minimal tides, Kendwa is the best place in Zanzibar. The beach is the most spacious and greatest on the island and the village provides all the necessities you would need. With many tours and water activities offered on the beach you would hardly need to move anywhere else. It is also a walkable distance to Nungwi during low tide if anyone is interested in a more bustily environment.

I loved everything about this place including night performances during supper. It is so easy to get to different places with taxis that are always waiting outside and the drivers are so friendly and always ready to drive you around any destination

Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.
