The breakfast was excellent. We were given to try a sweet that was specially made for us. It was delicious. The service was really good. The coffee was brilliant. We tried the coffee from the slow bar. This something else, as the coffee was made with a special espresso machine. It was basically hand made. I ended up having three espressos each morning. Well worth the wait. Brilliant.

we loved its central location (within 5 minutes walk of our favourite restaurants - one open during the day adjacent to the hotel which mainly catered for local families and the other at Tamajun hotel overlooking the river. the room was cleaned every day to a high standard - glass bottles of water where replenished daily minimising plastic use which we appreciated. the a/c was very effective, very comfy large bed, decor was tasteful, a classic elegance , staff were friendly - overall we loved this place

I usually don't like to stay in hotels, even the best and most famous ones. But the experience at Baan Rim Ao was exceptional! We planned a trip to Chanthaburi for two days to see the local sights and visit the jewelry market and didn't book the hotel in advance. We looked at what was available on booking for a reasonable price with 4 stars. 

 The hotel is not in the town itself but in a picturesque area near farms on the bay. We checked in not in tourist season and there was another couple from China staying in the entire hotel besides us. How surprised we were when in the evening a group of musicians came to the restaurant (there was even a saxophonist) and arranged a whole concert for us alone. And when they brought us the menu, we couldn't believe that the oysters cost no more than 160 Bt. We decided to try it and it turned out to be the best oysters in our life - the freshest and tender. 

 The staff is a separate story. No one speaks enough English to communicate with the guest. This is not a chain hotel where the staff is trained to international standards. And that's a good thing. Because they do everything with heart and full dedication to their work. No even the highest standards can reproduce this family atmosphere.

 We liked everything very much, down to the smallest detail. And we have also never seen such a perfectly clean pool! The man who takes care of the pool is a god in his business.
 I think Baan Rim Ao Hotel is the crown jewel of Chanthaburi.

The staff are really lovely. You can order a massage at the front desk and the masseuse comes to your room. As of Feb 2025, 400b for a Thai massage and 600b for an oil massage. You can take a tuktuk to the market for 80b roundtrip or it's a 25min walk. It's a 10min walk the other direction to the mangrove forest. There are laundry services for 35b per piece of clothing and they'll do it within the day if you send it in the morning. It's mostly Thai tourists there, everyone really nice and respectful. There's a fire show on the beach at the weekends too. It's good value for money considering the high quality of the location and beautiful swimming pool. There's also a cafe next to reception with really nice quality iced coffee and drinks. A real luxury cafe.

This place is fantastic! Its pristine sanctuary with private jungle and beach access. You can stay either in hotel or traditional family huts, which we have chosen. The restaurant offers amazing breakfast and lovely selection of local dishes for the rest of the day. Staff was super helpful in any request we had and either provided us with transportation to nearby forest or ordered us taxi for a longer trip. They were really nice and genuinely happy people. We ended up extending our stay as this was the most awesome place we found in Thailand so far.

Quite a quaint town with a really nice old town area on the river. However, you wouldnt want more than a couple of days there. We struggled a bit with the lack of English and our Thai is sketchy, but people were very kind and helpful.

Great beach area, relatively quiet & family friendly.

Great beach area, relatively quiet & family friendly. Many good restaurants along the beach. More of a "locals" beach than international tourists, which is good. Nearly is the Sea World - Dolphin shows - would recommend the trip to see these. Take a drive along the coasts to visit little fishing villages & restaurants. Lots of seafood.

The visit was principally in order to visit the Gem Stone market but there are plenty more places to see. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is well worth a visit. A number of Temples are there too.

Nice beach and very fresh cheap seafood at the pier at Chaolao beach. Nice view at Kungwimarn beach and Nangphaya Hill. Good to visit the Catholic church and walk to the Chantabun walking market to experience local lives, food and snacks.
