This was one of the nicest places I stayed on my entire 6-week travels through Portugal. Room was really comfortable, as was the bed, the staff were all very nice and helpful, the breakfast was REALLY good, and the location was very central but also very quiet. They did a good job curating the hotel.

Bustling city with plenty of cafes and eateries, slightly off the usual tourist trail. The Castelo de Braganca was well worth a visit. We thought the prices in the city were very reasonable. Watch out if you are using an old satnav - we were directed up a very steep, narrow street which turned out to be a dead end. The reversing down the cobbles and a 37-point turn were a challenge!

I love Chaves, small ancient town which has a river going...

I love Chaves, small ancient town which has a river going through it with its own Roman bridge going across it… wonderful restaurants, the food is amazing here in the north of Portugal! Amazing places to stay with fabulous Portuguese restaurants! You’re also close to one of the nicest wine regions in the world! If you drive go trough Régua up the Douro where the grapes are grown! Unbelievable gorgeous, truly stunning

Vila Real is a nice town with all factilities available,...

Vila Real is a nice town with all factilities available, some nice and affordabled places to eat or have a drink. It is within 30 minutes of driving from the Douro valley. A great ride will bring you in the wineries over there. Be prepared that wine tasting in the Douro valley is overpriced.

Great jumping off point for Douro River and wineries.

Great jumping off point for Douro River and wineries. Pleasant train ride to get there from Porto. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance around the town and boat trips from the pier. Short train ride to next town and winery tours.

The little village is very small - very few stores and...

The little village is very small - very few stores and restaurants. A few wineries there for tastings. Need a car to be able to drive to the wineries at the top of the surrounding hills and even 30 minutes away. Taxis are very expensive. Driving can be harrowing on the steep hills and extremely narrow roads. It's a good place to go to launch yourself to wine tastings in the region. It's not a place to bring children. We enjoyed dinner family style at our Casa. We LOVED going to Wine and Soul - where they still stomp their grapes. Outstanding ports and wines.

A great Douro site, especially the cruise, I recommend booking tickets in advance. Spending the night is highly recommended to absorb the atmosphere, and especially to take the cruise, one of the highlights of this town. (www.europarques.com - info@europarques.com)

Ribeira da Pena is a very quiet city, in which we can relax.

Ribeira da Pena is a very quiet city, in which we can relax. We also have a park for extreme activities, which I thought was excellent. And there is plenty of nature for those who like hiking or sports.

Interesting town divided by a scenic river. Seems to be a nut capital with bulk walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts for sale everywhere. Many reasonable restaurants, but breakfast options limited. Good shopping and pedestrian streets, all within walking distance.

This is a great place to spend the best time in the Douro...

This is a great place to spend the best time in the Douro Valley and enjoy the surroundings with the best views, terrace vineyards and wineries. The outdoor pool attracts you even more, especially if you have a teenager who wants to spend time around the pool / beach.

We only visited Montalegre for a short period, but found...

We only visited Montalegre for a short period, but found time to walk around the town and castle which offered terrific panoramic views. We would certainly visit this town again and perhaps stay over for a couple of days the next time that we are in the region.
