Amazing room, with a view to die for. The ocean was right under our balcony, and the room we were allocated allowed us to watch both the sunrise AND the sunset - never happened to me before! Just like other places I've stayed at in Portugal, half of the staff was lovely and the other half gave the impression they would rather be spending their time elsewhere. Strange...

Very Spacious room with both a bathtub and a shower, balcony was also huge with a comfy sofa and a sitting area. The staff was professional and service-minded, especially our favourite bartender João. We've spent long evenings just sitting at the Navigante bar having a conversation with him. Very attentive and helpful, a true professional! The drinks were excellent, way better than what they usually are at all-inclusive hotels. Also thanks to the reception staff, we got to check-in earlier and spent the time waiting for our room to be ready at the hotel premises enjoying the all-inclusive benefits. Upon the checkout, we also got to keep our room for two extra hours while we were waiting for our pick-up. The hotel itself is under renovation so I imagine it will be even bigger and fresher when it's done.

FAQs about hotels in Madeira Archipelago

The Island of Eternal Spring

With lush landscapes, brightly coloured flowers and a mild, year-round climate, it’s easy to see why Madeira is called the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’. Its interior is mountainous, so most resorts are coastal, many at the foot of steep cliffs.

One such resort is Paul do Mar, a fishing village known for whale watching and surfing, as is Jardim do Mar, on a plateau just east. Nearby Calheta has 2 white sand beaches protected by breakwaters.

The main resort is the capital Funchal. Cascading down slopes, it has the lion’s share of 5-star hotels in Madeira on Booking.com. A cable car ascending into the hills offers fantastic views towards the harbour where cruise liners and ferries from neighbouring Porto Santo island are berthed.

East, Caniço’s sandy beach is nestled between rocky cliffs, while Santa Cruz is the nearest resort to Madeira Airport. Machico is the 2nd biggest city and has the best nightlife outside Funchal, but the best Madeira hotels for families are in quieter resorts such as Porto da Cruz in the north.

Santana is home to the triangular-shaped, thatched houses typical of the island, and twisting mountain roads lead to São Vicente, an attractive hill town with red-roofed houses. By the north-western tip is the village of Porto Moniz whose offshore rocks shelter natural rock pools.

Our first impression was absolutely amazing; the first receptionist we met (blonde girl, I believe her name was Cristina) went the extra mile with us and gave us a free upgrade. She smiled a lot and provided us with an excellent service. She is a great asset to the company. The rest of the staff were also very nice. The check out receptionist (Zita) was also great to us. The room was very spacious with a great view to the ocean. The buffet was amazing, with a lot of food to choose from. We will definitely go back and we will recommend this hotel to everyone.

The staff is absolutely lovely and caring. We had a lovely Ocean view room, and it was quite big and with a terrific terrace. We had an issue with our boat back to Madeira, which has been canceled, and they also called us to let us know. We also appreciated the Jeep Tour that they organized for us. The breakfast was also quite good, even if we have been in low season and their last month of opening. Highly recommended, we will definitely come back in the future.

We really enjoyed our short stay at this beautiful resort. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The place is really nice and the beach just wonderful. We visited Porto Santo in December - it was not that warm and the sea very refreshing, but you can still swim in the sea. The advantage was an almost empty beach and a very calm atmosphere at the resort.

Lovely clean city.

Lovely clean city. People, especially locals were friendly and welcoming. Lots to see and do. Lovely flat promenade to walk. It's so good we go at least once a year and have done so for past 15 years. Always something different to see and do. You can spend as much or as little money as you wish. Eating out is excellent. We ate at local restaurants, but also in the cafe in the Pingo Doce Supermarket and in the Anadia Shopping Centre. Outside the Farmers market is a pavement cafe - excellent coffee and good for people watching... It's a City you must visit at least once in a lifetime. There are also other lovely areas on the island to visit.

Machico is a very pleasant place to stay in Madeira. It’s relatively quiet compared to Funchal, but it is nice and peaceful. It has one of the best sandy beaches on the island, it has a nice town centre with plenty of bars restaurants and cafes. The volcanic pools were closed due to high waves, We learnt at the reception that the best time to enjoy using them is May-October. Aquarium is fine but rather small. We've tried Rooftop Restaurant - great food but not the cheapest in the world. The Beerhouse is a great place in good weather. With rain you are forced to stay inside. Porto Moniz is small with the volcanic pools its main attraction.

Calhetta itself is small and the main part of it centres around the harbour. As you might expect this means that all the major activities are boat-based such as whale and dolphin watching, sailing, fishing, excursions etc. but there are also lots of restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour where you can get a great meal - especially if you like fish - or just relax for the evening and watch the sunset.

Ponta do Sol is a gem for exploring Madeira's levadas, offering both relaxation and adventure. The scenic Levada do Moinho/Nova is located in Ponta do Sol itself, and varied trails nearby cater to all fitness levels, from challenging Rabaçal hikes to leisurely Levada dos Cedros strolls. Ponta do Sol's tranquil atmosphere, lovely beach, restaurants, and relaxed pace allow for post-hike relaxation.
