Peaceful location surrounded by the host’s beautiful garden, serenaded by bellbirds as we relaxed in the private spa. Very nice continental breakfast. Attention to detail, even providing charger cables for iOS and android phones. Easy drive or pleasant walk down to the river market (would be a fittening walk back up the hill!). The hosts were friendly and generous with their help and advice. Loved this place. Excellent value.

Wonderful place to stay, very comfortable and Allie was brilliant. Room and bathroom are a very good size, clean and modern. Huge choice of drinks in the room. After staying in motels for most of our trip, it was great to have peace and quiet! Lovely continental breakfast with muesli, fresh fruit and toast and choice of preserves. Easy parking on the road outside.

Sarjeant Gallery and café are well worth a visit.

Sarjeant Gallery and café are well worth a visit. The café salads were delicious & different and very well priced. Have recommended to others since then. Durie Hill elevator also a worthwhile & fun activity.

We were quite surprised that the town was looking so deserted compared to just couple of years ago when we last visited. Many of the shops on the main street (and just about all the ones on the side streets) were unoccupied and boarded up. Having only stayed one night, we didn't have much time to do more than walk up and down the main street to see the shops, but the town has quite a run down feel to it. The activities run by the Forgotten World Motel were mostly not operating at this time of the year (September). If you plan to do the adventure activities offered by the Motel, then visit from mid-October onwards when they are fully operating.

So much to see. The architecture is beautiful.

So much to see. The architecture is beautiful. Old buildings lovingly painted in pastel colours , a superb playground for the children , a paddle steamer riverboat which cruises the Whanganui river . A very pretty city with lots to enjoy. Great art shops and the best farmers markets ever . Fab restaurants to name a few The Rutland Arms , and the Castlecliff cafe/restaurant “The Citadel”.

My connections with Taumarunui are mostly through the Tiger Moth Club which was formed there in 1969 and returns every October to the best grass aerodrome in New Zealand. We always get a great welcome from the townspeople - and the weather is (usually) ideal for open-cockpit vintage biplanes.

I love Whanganui and have always enjoyed my time there — I have family in the area. Momiji was a lovely place to go for dinner, and Caroline’s Boatshed is always a favourite for a meal. The Saturday market is also a great place to visit and never disappoints.

went on the forgotten highway rail trail adventure trip, which was awesome, all their staff are great, a fascinating trip. Taumaranui itself is a bit grotty, but have a great Thai restaurant and good golf course.
