A pretty, traditional lodge in a lovely rural setting with beautiful beaches nearby. The lodge has a pretty garden and even a pool that we only noticed the last morning. Host Dave was very nice and helpful, prompt in all communication and we felt welcome. Breakfast was very good and my gluten-free diet was noted, which I really appreciate as that isn’t nearly always clear. Our room was very spacious, had french doors and a view to a medow. Closeby Whangarei is a nice little town for a stroll, the interesting Hundertwasser gallery and even a visit to a waterfall.

The 19th-century Duke Hotel is located on the waterfront, overlooking the stunning Bay of Islands. It features a guest lounge, restaurant and bar and garden bar, as well as a gymnasium.

Excellent service. Ambience perfect for my travel needs...holiday mode. Pool was great...a few leaves and twigs in the pool but it didnt faze us. Shops next door and the bottle shop was handy:) Excellent all round.
