Since we have been going to Hanmer for the last 30+ years.

Since we have been going to Hanmer for the last 30+ years. It's so amazing how many people visit this beautiful location. Cycling fishing boating walking golfing the activities are endless. So much for young families to do. Running up & down Conical Hill was one of our favourite morning activities & cost nothing. So now being in the older generation find even just checking every thing out esp refurbished Queen Mary Hospital. What a pleasure to see it now being rebuilt back to as was or almost to bring back it's history. Hanmer Springs is really special.

A nice ,a little dated but characterful hotel in the centre of a quaint historic country village. The room I had was spacious , had comfortable bed and pillows, nice towels too. Plenty of tea and coffee, cutlery , crockery and a microwave to self cater.,

The Waipara has our favourite wines in NZ we love a couple nights there after doing some business in Christchurch. We always book a couple long lunch taste the chef experiences at Black Estate and Greystone then fit in a tasting at Pegasus bay and George’s Road and The Bone Line. You can cycle the wineries but we haven’t because we are always there in winter. Several of them have their own accommodation BnB and there are others in the area. The Amberley market on Saturday mornings is a good place to stock up on local goodies for self catering.

My stay at Keratu Downs Farm stay was excellent, the peaceful and beautiful surroundings are amazing as was the gardens and farm walks. The Musterers studio was very spacious with lovely furniture, the bed was very comfortable. The outside furniture under the veranda with grape vines dangling above was a lovely place to relax. The kitchen was well appointed with everything needed to cook meals. The breakfast tray was awesome with plenty of provisions to make a great breakfast. I would definitely recommend a stay at Keratu Downs Farm stay.

A day trip to Lake Taylor is worth it - a long and winding road but very picturesque, following the dramatic Hurunui River. Also visit the Maori rock art near Waikari. And the Waikari Kitchen cafe gets 10/10

The Amberley Hotel is an "Oasis" on the out-skirts of Christchurch. Arriving on a late afternoon flight my wife & I just wanted to get out of Christchurch & avoid the "Knock-Off Traffic" around the City. A short 45mins north is the wee town of Amberley & the Amberley Hotel is a good first night stopover after a tiresome day of travel. There are soft beds, good food & cold beer. What more could one want?

I think Waipara is a nice day trip, or good place to pass through and stop for lunch. We ate lunch at Greystone which was lovely. We stopped at Terrace Edge to taste, but there were no restaurants for dinner or little town to stop and stroll through/rent bikes unless you drove back down to Amberly, and very few places to stay. This was our last day, and we are not huge wine people, so we didn't take full advantage of everything the area had to offer. I think this is an up and coming area, so still room to grow. On the plus side, not at all crowded.
