Only 7 mins drive to town for food, very convenient location. Rose gave us a farm tour after we arrived. She was such a cheerful person, and very patient to my kids. She has two very loving dogs and my kids loved them. We had a Wonderful stay! Would highly recommend this place to everyone.

We had an incredible stay at Mt Hut Lodge! The accommodation offers stunning views and a truly relaxing atmosphere. Jo and Butch, the owners, were wonderful hosts, providing warm and welcoming hospitality that made our stay even more enjoyable.
Our room was clean and comfortable, the Lodge had well-maintained amenities, and a great pool to unwind after a day of exploring.
We highly recommend Mt Hut Lodge to anyone looking for a getaway and can’t wait to return for another visit!

Beautiful place to stay in between the mountains in the castle hill area. Was much fun as there was a quiz with some locals. Other tourists and me where able to compete too and it made the night. Good kitchen, good bar. Had a great stay!

We had a deluxe villa with two bedrooms, it was really nice with lots of space and beautiful views. Very good value for money and friendly staff. Good base for Castle Rocks.

Gorgeous alpine area with lovely day walks.
Gorgeous alpine area with lovely day walks. The township area is very small but good as a place to do a few walks. We did the 13km, 6 hrs Bealey Spur walk about 13km drive from the township. We stopped at the hut and had a picnic on the lawn area under some trees) Incredible views over the snow capped mountains and valley with every type of vegetation along the way. Tiring but rewarding!! Lots of washed out tracks meant you needed to negotiate stones and a bit of wet areas . Rated as Medium , leave 5 hrs if you want to really enjoy the views and have a rest and lunch at the top. We are fit middle aged walkers- add an extra 1.5 hrs to go to the very top of the spur. One track in and out so you can’t get lost. Lots of shady areas and breezes.

Methven is a little gem of a town set in stunning...
Methven is a little gem of a town set in stunning surroundings with plenty on offer in both summer and winter. The Opuke thermal pools are a must do and have previously done the hot air ballooning which is a definite highlight of the area. There's a good selection of eating options for both day and night. We ate at Baileys Irish pub and loved the food. Methven is a great option for a weekend getaway from Christchurch without having to go too far to enjoy some R&R.

Iconic historical building in an iconic location. The rooms are furnished period appropriate, the restaurant contains a collection of historical curios. The couple running it is very friendly and approachable. The food is hearty kiwi home style cooking.

Springfield is only an hour from Christchurch yet so close...
Springfield is only an hour from Christchurch yet so close to great scenery for drives and many sporting activities including Mt Hutt Ski Fields plus others. Arthur's Pass is a fabulous drive, Rakaia Gorge is beautiful, the drive to Coleridge Power Station, at the back of Mt Hutt is very scenic. The town of Methven is not far away. And there is so much more to see. Springfield is a fabulous base for so much to do and see!

Luxurious and welcoming. The restaurant at Terrace Downs was exceptional. Highly recommend the Mt Cook Salmon main. Extensive wine selection and great service. Would love to have stayed longer as there is so many exciting activities to choose from.

Very relaxing area with many outdoor activities to do.
Very relaxing area with many outdoor activities to do. Great for families to walk around Castle Hill around the rock formations or fishing along the rivers and plenty of different walks around the amazing areas. There were mountain biking trails up Porters with the team at Porter's lodge able to drive you back up to the top of the trails.
Definitely keen to get back over to explore some more.

The Waipara has our favourite wines in NZ we love a couple nights there after doing some business in Christchurch. We always book a couple long lunch taste the chef experiences at Black Estate and Greystone then fit in a tasting at Pegasus bay and George’s Road and The Bone Line.
You can cycle the wineries but we haven’t because we are always there in winter. Several of them have their own accommodation BnB and there are others in the area. The Amberley market on Saturday mornings is a good place to stock up on local goodies for self catering.

We would not usually stay in Amberley, but this time the location suits as a base to venture from.
But we did find a few things to do that surprised us. Beach is awesome, Brew Moon much the same..Wineries for the girls, Awesome

Good base for exploring the North Canterbury forest trails, as a short drive away. Sheffield Pie shop was popular. Quiet road was a bonus. Friendly locals in the shops, very chatty. Useful supermarket in village.
