South AfricaThis is great stay specially with kids. It's got a games room and two swimming pools overlooking the front beach. The Restaurants, shops and peer is with in walking distance. A big up for housekeeping and the beds are a bliss to sleep on. I love the fact that our room has a communal basin (kitchen and bathroom Basin) outside the bathroom and that the toilette is separate from our bathroom which incl a shower and a bath. Reception and night staff is always available and very helpful will surely visit again when exploring the Bay of Islands.

Wonderful hosts with thoughtful gestures (homemade muesli, bread, brownies, flowers on the bed). The lodge was immaculate and spacious and peaceful. Easy to access the town and nearby attractions. Gallery on site. Anna was fantastic and assisted us with making reservations at local restaurants despite it being a very busy period.

I love everything about Russell.
I love everything about Russell. It is such an iconic place, full of history. I actually met a lady walking along the beach whose forebearers had built the The Duke of Malborough. The shops have so many wonderful things to offer and the people so friendly and helpful. Apart from The Duke of Malborough which always sets the highest standard in their restaurant which produces incredible food, I must mention Hone’s Garden. The pizzas are outstanding and mixed with a craft beer and friendly staff it’s not hard to see why it is always our first port of call. They have managed to create a laid back, island vibe surrounded by tropical plants. Just in front of Hone’s is The Gables, a fabulous Italian Restaurant. The Lamb Ragu with home made pasta again is exceptional. You would go along way to find three amazing places all within walking distance with views to die for.
In terms of boat trips, we can heartily recommend The Hole in the Rock. Our last two lots of visitors thoroughly enjoyed this experience and the added bonus of seeing dolphins and a shark. Just remember to wear something warm as can be a bit cold depending on the weather. Well worth it though!

This was a lovely place to stay.
This was a lovely place to stay. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and everything we needed was provided. It was a real treat to stay here.
We visited the Treaty Grounds, just down the road for a cultural and historical education. We hiked to waterfalls and mangrove forests. We caught the car ferry and visited Russell on the coast.

Absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful! We had such a great time during our stay. The service was outstanding—never a bad experience. All the staff were so friendly and genuinely happy to have us there, which made us feel truly welcome.
There are so many things to do and explore in Paihia and the surrounding areas,
Highly recommend Paihia for anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway!

Kerikeri is an attractive small town with lots of lovely trees and gardens especially beautiful at this time of year.
There are a number of cafe’s and restaurants in Kerikeri some of which we visited definitely recommend Black Cat for breakfast and Thai for dinner.
Lots of place to go walking and sight seeing.

Do yourself a favour and stay for a few days at this wonderful place. There are so many walks, and lots of beautiful spots to explore. It would be a shame to limit yourself to the main street.
The museum and the French Printery are certainly worth a visit, as is getting up to the top of Flagstaff Hill and having a coffee from the van on Long Beach.
The 4 Square shop is well stocked and reasonably priced if you are self catering.

We love the place, lots to do, close to the beach/river park for kids lots of food options our family decided to buy takeaways on one night and ate on the beach, we stayed at the Bay of islands Holiday park and didn’t really need to organise activities as our venue hit the spot with a swimming pool, great kids park, volley ball and cool BBQ and Pizza oven area

I have been to Russell a couple of times before but only as day visits so to be honest Ive only stayed in the little township itself but loved that.
This time I stayed a night to attend a function.
The motel was the icing on the cake because where you stay can make or break a stay anywhere. The view of the harbour below with boats anchored..you couldn't beat. I want to come back..and my friend and I intend to. It's handiness was great.
Great afternoon of shopping..something for everyone & delightful 'The Grazing table' cafe for home cooked sweets with delicious coffee. Would have liked to spend more time in the fabulous looking book store..great looking coffee table books on display but I ran out of time. There is something for everyone here.
Russell town can easily be walked around in a short time without stopping..but who wants to do that. It's a lovely, interesting quaint place with a lovely harbour looking over to Paihia where you go to connect to main highway..eventually. A day passenger ferry runs regularly from Paihia & to.
There are other areas to visit over the hill and the car ferry over from Opua is very quick and efficient.
And least but not forgotten..the fantastic Duke of Marlborough hotel and accomodation with its elegance gracing the shoreline is a highlight. I had a lovely evening supportng the Recuse Helicopters fundraising event..it was spent under gorgeous chandelier lighting with all the simple but lovely table settings. Surely a grand gentleman which began in 1827 as 'Johnny Johnsons Grog Shop' by an ex convict come good!
