This hotel serves as an example in the hotel sector! Facilities of the finest aesthetics, strategical location (at the heart of the main attractions and very well connected with the airport), beautiful sauna and fitness amenities, attention to details (e.g high quality skincare products) and the most delicious breakfast you could ever ask for! Most importantly, what makes Amerikalinjen special is the genuine politeness and hospitality of its people! Our breakfasts and dinners would not be the same if Alexander from the Brasserie Atlas was not there to ensure that every meal becomes an authentic and unique experience (not to mention our pleasant discussions and his very useful tips for Oslo). Likewise, Katharina and Nikos kept always the biggest smile for us, were very attentive and did the extra mile to help with every single thing that we needed. Exploring a new country/city and finding a new home is not self-evident! Thus, when this happens, you know that you will be back soon!

Nice hotel in stately building with several lounge spaces on the ground floor. There is a restaurant and both houses are connected by glass corridor. Our wish was fulfilled and we were given room in the historical part of the hotel which has many nice features. Afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast were all included which was quite useful given prices to have a meal somewhere outside. Afternoon cake was not abundant, however everyone present got a bite or two. Dinner had only one choice of (mediocre) hot meat dish, but more choice of tasty salad and side dishes, therefore even vegetarian in our company left satisfied. The soup was perfect! Great variety of tasty options for the breakfast. The hotel is children and animal friendly. Public transport nearby.

We arrived at the hotel being busy due to the visit of the Italian President. As all rooms were booked out we were offered an amazing upgrade of a wonderful suite. The room was quiet and had everything we needed. All the staff were helpful and very friendly. The rooftop bar was lovely and had a good view. Proximity to the train station made it easy to catch the fast train from the airport and walk from the station. The hotel was also close to the foreshore and shopping area.

There was available reception to assist you even though you check in automatically. The instructions before we arrive were very detailed. There is tram station just in front of building and many cafes too. Rooms are big and clean. Bathroom had floor heating. There was extra blanket made by wool.

It was Christmas time, the city was quite and peaceful.

It was Christmas time, the city was quite and peaceful. Pleasant to walk around as the temperature was around 0 degrees and no rain. Probably unusually mild for Oslo in December, no snow. Most of the museums are closed over the days of Christmas, as are the many restaurants and shops. So you will need to research your eating options in advance, but you will find them. Starts to get busy again from the 27th December. Overall a very nice city to visit. Transport in Oslo is very good, although if you are based in the city centre you can walk to most attractions. No need for cash, use cards or apps.

We did not stay long but Oslo felt like a humane city. It might be cold and dark during the winter months, but locals were very warm, helpful and chill. I would certainly visit this charming city again to enjoy the night life a bit more. Maybe during summer ;)

Oslo city was a pleasant surprise, fabulous architecture,...

Oslo city was a pleasant surprise, fabulous architecture, easily walkable, clean, and quiet given that 80% of cars are electric so too are the trams and most of the buses. Traffic was minimal during the week although noticeably more on the Friday. Very easy to navigate via the Ruter# App, and trains to and from the Airport are inexpensive and quick into the city centre. Warning, there are more than one train operator, so make sure you get on the correct train otherwise you will be charged again once on board for having the wrong ticket !! Lesson learned, Food and drink expensive as anticipated, and if not a fan of Norwegian food there are options - actually Italian was pretty good as was the French bistro we visited. However, rather short on salad or vegetable options. Of course everyone speaks english so you should have no trouble finding your way around or navigating menus etc.
