Absolutely beautiful hotel, when we arrived we got an upgrade to the bungalows closer to the adults pool, and it was amazing. We had been traveling for a few weeks in Mexico and I have to say this was by far the best hotel we stayed at. The staff, the details, the decorations, proximity to the center and the beach, it was perfect. It includes a very adequate breakfast as well. If you are doubting, don't. Stay here.

We came to Hotel Playa Laguna Front to unplug, relax, and enjoy the lagoon -- and that's exactly what we did for 5 days. The hotel is in a prime location, sitting at perhaps the most colorful, swimmer-friendly part of the lagoon. You can tell it's a prime spot because a lot of boat tours end around this area to let people swim in the lighter waters there near the cenote. It's also only a couple kms from the town center, so you can easily get into town while still having enough distance from the more touristy center. The hotel itself isn't a fancy upscale place, but that's not what we were looking for. Nonetheless the hotel is new and the facilities are clean/modern with great bathrooms. The hotel is run by a lovely team who were really accommodating...big thanks to the manager Evaristo for always being there to help with any questions. Another great thing is that the kayaks and sup-boards are free to use from 6am to 6pm. The only day you can't use them is on Wednesday when no water activities (other than swimming) are allowed across the lagoon. Wednesdays are conservation days, with inactivity allowing the lagoon to restore itself.

Our stay at Hotel Solana Bacalar Lakefront was a pleasure from the moment we arrived. The hotel has a beautiful setting right by the lagoon, with peaceful surroundings and views that make you slow down and relax. The reception and restaurant/bar staff were genuinely excellent — professional, friendly, and always ready to help with a smile. Their warmth made the stay feel personal and easy, and we really appreciated the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere throughout the property. The on-site restaurant offers great food and drinks in a lovely lakeside setting, perfect for watching the colors of Bacalar’s lagoon change through the day. A place that combines natural beauty with attentive service — highly recommended.

Absolutely lovely place with such kind and lovely owners. It was very homely and comfortable, while not feeling like we were in somebody else's space. We loved that there was a stove, oven, microwave, fridge and coffee machine in the communal area. It felt a bit like a hostel, except that the crowd was very mixed in age and also included families. We stayed in Mexico for four weeks and this was our favourite place.

Service: I spent one night at Papaya Playa Project in a beautiful Casita with a rooftop pool, and it was truly unforgettable. There is something about this place that captures the authentic soul of Tulum. The sound of the waves, the scent of the jungle, and the warmth of the people blend perfectly to create an atmosphere that feels both wild and deeply peaceful. Watching the sunrise from my rooftop pool felt like witnessing the world come alive. The sea in front of me, the palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the soft rhythm of nature all around me created a feeling of pure magic. What I loved most about Papaya Playa Project is its energy. It is not just a hotel; it is a place that makes you feel part of Tulum itself. Everything here feels genuine, earthy, and real. It is a space to disconnect from everything and reconnect with yourself. My stay was short but soul-stirring. I left feeling renewed, inspired, and with a piece of this beautiful place forever in my heart.

The place is a marvel! The hotel has its own little private beach in an ocean bay that is spectacular and incredibly well maintained. The reality was actually even BETTER than the fancy pictures on this site. Staff was super friendly and always forthcoming (special warm thanks to Cesar, Paco, and Mariella) and it really felt like home for the week that we stayed. They were super helpful in organizing a rental car straight to the property as well as anything else (tours etc.) that we wanted. You can get to Tulum center in a few minutes via taxi (400 MXN / ~22 USD) or rent a bike, though you will most likely prefer to stay at the beach most of the time anyway. There are plenty of restaurants along the beachfront in walkable distances. Everyone in the hotel speaks English, but it was also a great opportunity to practice Spanish (or Yucatec Maya, if you're in for that).

It was an unforgettable experience! It was out of this world. We truly felt like it was an experience for our senses. One thing I can say is that the photos don’t do it justice. I tried to capture it but it’s not possible! You are immersed in another world and there’s so much to explore. You will feel truly relaxed. So many little nooks & crannies. Big kudos to the artists that created this space and the architect of course. And finally a big thank you to the staff who make the stay so enjoyable. Our biggest thanks is to Luis Poot who works as a waiter in the breakfast area Alixa - he’s a fantastic person and we enjoyed meeting him very much!! Thank you Azulik - what a place you’ve created!

The beach was right outside my balcony and beautiful. The breeze is always amazing and if you love iguana's then you’re in the right place to enjoy them. And the Peacocks are all over the place. Getting into town is super easy too and just don’t eat the ice unless you have a strong immune system. I will absolutely be coming back for more time there as I truly enjoyed my first trip to Cancun.

Great for family vacation, make sure to do the tour to Chichen Itza, Centoes and Valladolid. You can book this tour beforehand on bookings.com but also take note that an additional 765MXN per person is required to visit the historical sites. Your total spend will end up being around 100usd per person but its so worth it! Other than that, getting around is relatively easy, we stayed in the Zona Hotelera so many things were accessible via bus.

By far the best thing about Playa del Carmen is the close proximity to cenotes. They are amazing water filled caves that you can explore, but you'll always need to do so with a guide. Otherwise, Playa del Carmen is pretty whatever. Kinda fun if you're looking for touristy party bar vibes (like Hard Rock Cafe type stuff), but generally it feels like a tourist trap for the most part. There are soooo many scammers here and it's really hard to tell what is a legitimate official group or just another scammer. For example, the Tulum national park entrance is filled with people selling tickets and tours as if they are park employees, but they are not. They even have constructed a fake security gate entrance to make it appear you must buy tickets before entering the park area, and of course the tickets they sell are about 4x the actual price. The beaches could be nice if they weren't filled with garbage. This is likely because many street food vendors and restaurants serve styrofoam and plastic utensils that frequently end up on the beach and broken into tiny bits. So the beaches are actually quite ugly as a result. Tren Maya is pretty useless since they decided to construct it miles inland from the towns, so it just leaves you in the middle of the jungle. Overall, I mostly just felt like I was being ripped off every day I was in Playa de Carmen and the area around it. I'd only recommend visiting a cenote or two and leaving for some place nicer.

Beautfiuyl beaches, but rampant price gouging and the place is a tourist trap. We are at the point where they are asking for 90 pesos for water in a restaurant (that's about 5 dollars) but you don't even get a glass of water with ice and a lime, no all you get is a plastic waterbottle that you could buy for 25 cents in the grocery store. Every dish starts at some 250 pesos, (15 dollars) no matter are simple it is. All prices go by 50 pesos, 250, 300, 350 etc pretty clearly completely disconnected from reality. You get three tiny tacos for that. The beaches are very pretty, the shores are filled with pretty people too - but swimming is almost impossible because the waves are strong and brutal.

though we were at the seasonal end of the Rainy season the roads did flood. The Hotel is far from the city center and are not walkable during certain times. taxi four wheelers at 200 pesos on way. Mangroves and rain make for flooded passages. We rented a bikes to get around however the puddles were too deep to get through. You do need GPS many options of getting to and from the hotel in Coco beach area. taking the weather in stride we enjoyed our 5 night stay in Holbox. There were great sunny periods and walked the beaches, sat under palapas, swam, and walked the sand bars at low tide, Coco beach and Mosquito. This place is what Tulum must have been 30 years ago. There is plenty of development/construction here and if you want to beat the commercialism it is time to go now, Luv it woud go back in a flash. I will go back. We found the best vegan vegetarian place Artes Sona a must.

My FAVORITE cenotes were at Sac Actun and Ecopark Kantun Chi. Sac Actun requires a guide, but it's not as expensive as some of the other places. The cenote is beautiful and they provide you with wetsuits (which helps a LOT with the cold) and goggles. It was a very cool experience. Ecopark Kantun Chi has 5 cenotes but we bought the entrance that allows you to go 4 of them without a guide. For us, this was perfect because we could spend as much time as we wanted at each spot and they were all so different and beautiful. I loved #3, which was an open sky cenote with a waterfall and #4, which was a really cool cave with spots where the sunlight streamed in from above. We got to see some lobsters there too. Also a very cool feature is that there are kayaks in several of the cenotes so you get to explore them that way as well. Another cool spot was Languna Yal Ku where we got to snorkel in calm water and see so many different types of fish. I highly recommend wearing clothing that covers your arms and legs since sunscreen isn't permitted and you are directly exposed to the sun the whole time. For meals, we enjoyed traveling to both Akumal Pueblo (for some simple and cheaper meals) and Akumal Playa on the other side of the road for some more variety.
