The owners helped organize the full day safari. Really great tour (we saw 2 leopards) with a guide that doesn’t follow the crowds and truly explores the park.
The location is not super close to centre but they have bicycles we can use (just a 20min bike ride)

Hong KongI feel very lucky to stay at Nalin’s place. I highly recommend it! It was the best place during my trip. The room was very clean, the mattress was comfortable. We got 5 star service here. Nalin was very kind and nice, prepared everything I asked for, hot water for shower, fruit and blanket. He also brought us to see sunrise, visit 4 beautiful lakes and local temples, and introduced birds. He has very rich bird knowledge. We even saw swimming crocodile in a lake! His wife cooks so well! We had super delicious homemade dinner. I really love it! Nalin also helped us book a safari, and we saw leopard, bear, and many other animals.

Furthermore, very clean room and nice view over the lake especially for sunrise. The room was very big and we felt very comfortable. The safari the owner provided was amazing, we saw many animals. We did a sunset tour.
To mention: I twisted my ankle some days ago when we were hiking in Ella and the owner of Double Lake View Tissa went with us to a hospital and drove us to pharmacy. This was so kind. Also the food was very nice. Overall, this stay was one of our best we had in Sri Lanka, we would definitely come back again.

LithuaniaWe stayed in the place for one night a had chosen it because of Yala safari. We contacted the owner via booking chat in advance and he arranged us a private jeep safari to Yala national park. We were picked from the place at 4:30 and were back at noon. And that was really enough, as the the best time to see wild animals is very in the morning. The Yalla park opens at 6 a.m. and the jeeps have to stand in queue before entrance, so it is important to be at the entrance little bit early - we were there at 5:20 - so that to enter the park with the firs visitors. That is important, because jeeps go to specific places where leopards and elephants live and then again stand in queue so that to see animals. Therefore the time spend in the queues depends on the experience of the driver and our driver was really very good. We saw leopards, elephants, wild pigs, bulls, peacocks, crocodiles and more wild nature. We ordered a room with terrace without breakfast as the breakfast was included in safari price and we had a breakfast on the ocean beach in Yala. The room we booked was clean and comfortable. We had some time after we checked in in the afternoon, so we went to Kirinda to the beach, as we traveled by tuk tuk on ourselves. We had a beautiful sunset on the terrace of our room. And the owner offered to prepare us a dinner - we even could choose dishes from wide menu with listed prices - that was pleasantly surprising, as this is the place where the owners family lives and they offer only couple rooms to rent. Overall the Willage Mango Resort Yala met all our expectations so we definitely recommend the place to stay, especially if you plan to have Yala safari.

JerseyThe property was off the beaten track (but easy access to town by tuk tuk) so was lovely and quiet. The rooms were large and extremely clean and comfortable. The showers had hot water too. Mithila was such a fabulous host. Nothing was too much trouble and she was so friendly and approachable. Mithila organized our yala safari which was phenomenal. We had Nuwan as our driver and guide and he went above and beyond for us to have the best yala experience possible. He certainly made that happen as we saw so many animals including a leopard. We couldn’t recommend both the cabanas to stay and the safari highly enough! (We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children- 6, 7 and 9).

We stayed at the leopards nest for 1 night and it truly was an unforgettable experience. After reading some mixed reviews, it exceeded our expectations and I am so happy we planned this into our itinerary. The hotel sent driver information which we shared with our driver and everything was seemless. The safari truck was waiting for us and we did the afternoon safari. The guy was great, really knowledgeable- we were lucky enough to see elephants really close up and many other amazing animals. He then took us to the hotel around 6pm. We had a bbq dinner which was very cute, the food was really good quality too. We booked a sky nest and had a couple of little frog visitors in the bathroom but we didn’t mind, they added to the memories! The sky nest was really clean and more comfortable than we were expecting. WiFi only worked in the main restaurant areas but that’s okay, it was nice to be off the grid for one night. Again, breakfast exceeded our expectations and the hotel liaised with our driver for a smooth pick up. The staff are lovely and I fully recommend for one night if you want a safari and jungle glamping experience.

Elegantly decorated, classic without feeling outdated. All facilitates were provided, including incredible aircon! Felt super luxe!

Close to the entrance of Yala. we were first there for the morning safari.
The People
So attentive, went above and beyond to make the stay special. Great food.

we went out twice, the morning and evening. If we could have our time again, we would have done three in total.
The team were very respectful of the animals, never getting too close and taking great pride in seeing them in their natural habitat.
A HUGE shoutout to our tour guide Ashan who made our experience one that we will never forget. He is incredibly knowledgable, super passionate which made us even more excited, as well as knowing a lot about the bigger creatures he took much care and joy in the smaller ones too (side note, insane bird knowledge!). I even got a little photography tutorial, which meant that I could photograph the beautiful creatures with my new found skills.

My exhilarating trip to Sri Lanka was an incredible experience that will always remain in my memories. The pristine landscapes and beautiful nature of this country captured my heart. However, what made this trip even more special was our stay at Laya hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and also the place was very comfortable and quiet at night. We happened to be there during Sinhala and Tamil new year holiday, and we decided to stay an extra night to celebrate with them. We participated in their games and festivities, and it was a great new experience. We were even honored as special guests on the second night to stay in their brand new caravan. Special thanks to the hotel general manager (Mr.Wasantha) and his deputy (Mr.Dulaj) for their hospitality.

Out of all the hotels we visited in Sri Lanka, this was one of our favourites. It blends seamlessly into nature, with a main area featuring a pool, restaurant, and bar, plus chalets spread across a vast, wildlife-filled area (bonus: while we expected a lot of mosquitoes, there were none!)
The chalets are stylish and very clean. The restaurant offers incredible food, and the staff was exceptionally kind (big credit goes to Danushka). The bar above the restaurant is perfect for sunset cocktails.
The hotel also organizes safaris—we did morning ones and loved them. Afterward, lounging by the pool was a treat. Though on the pricier side, we highly recommend it!

Our experience was absolutely excellent in every aspect! The room was impeccably clean and comfortable, the meals were delicious, and the kindness and service of the staff were outstanding. Our ranger for the safaris was knowledgeable and made our excursions unforgettable. The security on site ensured we felt safe at all times. The manager was attentive and accommodating. In summary, everything was perfect. Highly recommended!

One of the best hotels in Katharagama township. Convenient access to the property from the town and also easy to access, most of the important places from this location. Good spacious rooms with ample of cupboards to keep the belongings.

The staff were very friendly. Special mention goes to Shehan from the restaurant, Sandaruwan from the pool supplies, ayurvedic doctors and all the wonderful staff at the reception. The food was amazing. Highly recommend this place to all safari lovers and pilgrimage stop overs.

It should be on everyone’s itinerary! The safari was amazing- go for the all day! And Jami Riverside Hotel is run by a wonderful host couple and the accommodations were comfortable, clean and affordable. They will make all the safari arrangements with the park for you if you wish. We had a wonderful driver -PHN Kasun Sampath.

This place is amazing.
This place is amazing. We stay with our 3 young kids and the staff were so kind and attentive. All of the small details have been thought of and it’s a wonderful experience in nature. Lovely local Sri Lankan are served for each meal.

We’re really glad we chose the Mailagama Cinnamon Residence for our stay in Kataragama. The staff treated us with great respect and warm hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed the hoppers dinner with its absolutely delicious curries. We must also mention that the curd and honey were the best we’ve ever had.

A great place to stay and would definitely recommend. Large comfortable room close to the pool, with restaurant and plenty of cold beer.
We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble.
Anyone looking for a visit to the National Park should consider staying at Tringa and booking the tour with them as they will make sure you have a great experience.

Weerawila, located in a dry zone of Sri Lanka, is ideal for wildlife safaris and nature experiences. This location is especially convenient during the rainy season, as it often stays dry even when the rest of the country is experiencing thunderstorms. We chose it specifically to avoid heavy rains.

We went for leopard safari & it is in zones 5&6. Safari was excellent & saw one leopard & a bear!
Hotels generally not near any restaurants so confined to your hotel for dining. Would not want more than one or two nights there.

The White House Inn is a fantastic place to stay in Thissamaharama. It’s situated in a calm and natural setting, making it perfect for relaxation. The inn is also very close to the Yala National Park, which is great for those looking to go on safari.
The hotel is clean and comfortable, providing a welcoming atmosphere. The spacious lobby area is a nice spot to unwind. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, offering excellent service throughout our stay.
One of the highlights was the food. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner, and the Sri Lankan dishes were absolutely delicious. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at the White House Inn and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

Tissamaharama is a fantastic base for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty and rich culture of southern Sri Lanka. It's perfectly located for Yala National Park safaris, offering easy access to incredible wildlife encounters. Beyond the safaris, the town itself has a calm, local vibe with beautiful lakes and ancient temples to discover. You'll find plenty of local restaurants and shops, making it easy to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan experiences. It's a great spot for both adventure and relaxation, and I highly recommend spending some time here!

It definitely is an experience worth trying. The tree house has all the comforts you need but yet kept on the simple side. Don't expect much and you will get a lot.
Nice food Bbq and big fire lit for you in the evening to give you a chance to relax and talk about your day activities.
It was great to be left alone and the silence of the night. There were times you just felt that we were the only ones there and when you needed something the staff would magically appear

It is a holy place visited by Buddhists and Hindus alike. Some Muslims also visit a mosque located in the sacred area. Buddhist usually visit the Kiri Vehera area first and then come to the Devale premises. There are circular roads to facilitate that sequence. Otherwise, one can walk to the Devale premises and then proceed to the Kiri Vehera premises. There are lot of boutiques selling various items including offerings for Devale. They are located in the town area. After that one has to cross a small bridge over the Menik River to enter the sacred area. Over the years both sides of the river have been re-organized for a better sequential experience.
