I always use this hotel when I travel to Badulla. The reason is that the hotel is in the city center, so it is very convenient for exploring the city of Badulla, and the price is very good. Exceptional!!! Really! We stayed for 2 nights and it was awesome. Besides the wonderful cottage and the stunning view, which makes it hard to even leave the place, you have an owner that goes far beyond the usual service. Breakfast on your balcony with fresh fruits and local specialities, he drops you to your street, he thinks ahead and brings you extra water. And the amenities are great ! would give 15/10 if possible.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Moon Rock, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! We had an early start the next day for a long journey to Colombo, and the host kindly prepared breakfast for us ahead of schedule. Absolutely everything was just perfect for our 3 nights, rooms clean and very well appointed, food excellent we even had an out door Bbq one night and the staff were 1st class especially Sanjeeva and his colleagues Priyantha, Krisham, Sujeewa and Thaksila nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcome and looked after our every need The view and gardens with the hot tub were just a glorious space to unwind and relax There are only 12 rooms so it has that home from home feel and the view and location for exploring Ella could not have been better

When you first arrive, the view takes your breath away! Never gets boring either!! Wonderful hotel, staff very attentive and helpful. This is not a negative, but as it is built onto the side of a mountain, there are lots of stairs as a result. Saw lots of reviews complaining about this. The food was wonderful (breakfast and dinner). Tuk-tuks happy to take you up and down the hill and reception will call them for you. We walked it a few times though too.

Loved everything! Room was incredible, views like nothing else, delighted to have a bed that could roll onto the balcony and a hammock for relaxation. Spa was beautiful with serene views and reasonably priced (it was cheaper than the place we went to in town!). Restaurant staff were lovely. If the sights of Ella weren't so fantastic, we would have happily spent every second in this room.

Got a room with an amazing view to Ella Rock. Hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and were very apologetic regarding the construction noise coming from pool construction. Can't wait to visit again once the pool is open, this is the only thing that was missing in this amazing hotel.

A busy compact town with a young, hip vibe. Prices are reasonable, weather can be a bit wetter and cooler than other parts of Sri Lanka. We loved the tea plantation and factory visit, as well as waterfalls and nine arch bridge. We were very lucky to see a train crossing (Dec18th 2025)as the recent landslides mean no current passenger carrying trains are running. Hopefully this is a sign that they may be back in service soon

A gorgeous, not too busy location with spectacular views across the mountains. The guesthouse was comfortable and run by a lovely , friendly family. We had a fantastic stay, we could’ve stayed longer!

The climate was cool and the views were spectacular.

The climate was cool and the views were spectacular. Best place to shop for groceries and fresh produce is Cargill Opposite the old post office in the town centre. Had difficulty in finding Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. And almost impossible to find places that offer freshly brewed Ceylon tea. People are friendly and willing to help. Accomodation is cheaper in Bandarawela. Hence it makes sense to base your self here and explore neighbouring places like Ella, Diyathlawe and Haputale .

Badulla is an up and coming tourist destination. It has much to offer but for now is excellent for those wishing to spend time in the hills and and away from the razzmatazz of Ella or the tried and tested Nuwara Eliya.

Almost everything.

Almost everything. Location was close to Horton Plains and the owners arranged a tuk tuk ride for a nominal fee. Lovely surrounding. Food was tasty and ample given. Really worth it. Owners were friendly and made the guests feel at home.

Ella has an amazing vibe, it’s a very tourist-friendly place and a perfect base for daily hiking trips. It’s very different from other Sri Lankan cities and definitely worth a visit. But if you’re looking for some peace and quiet, choose accommodation slightly outside the center to avoid the noise

Haputale is a breathtaking hill town surrounded by lush tea estates and misty mountains. We stayed at Benito Bungalow by The Serendipity Collection, where the in-house chef prepared fresh and delicious meals every day. The cool climate, scenic views, and peaceful setting made it the perfect place to unwind. It’s quieter and less touristy than other hill stations, which adds to its charm. A true hidden gem in Sri Lanka!

Even though My stay in Badulla was too short to visit all the beautiful places, the trip to Dunhida waterfall was a great experience, especially for kids. The path to Dunhida might be difficult for someone. I believe it was a very nice experience to walk through the jungle. Once you see the waterfall, you will forget all the tiredness.

On the one hand Ella is really beautiful.

On the one hand Ella is really beautiful. Great views nice waterfalls, great hiking spots. On the other hand it is packed with tourists. You have to go out of the city quite far do find a more quiet area. Ella itself is quite small since there’s only one “big” road. For us it was way too crowded. It’s not the cute little local mountain village it used to be.
