Royal Rock is a quiet, peaceful haven handy for Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa. The food is excellent, service attentive but not intrusive and the ambience is most relaxing. The rooms all have a view of a lion rock and paddy filed which is home to varieties of birdlife. There is a comfortable pool to cool off in and rooms are cozy.

Gorgeous Place, 10/10 for the most beautiful little accommodation I have stayed in Sri Lanka so far. Apart from the close location to the Lions Rock the Garden and Rooms give you a stunning Bali Vibe with a Pool within flowers and pretty Trees. On top to that the Staff just made our stay perfect, because they are super attentive, sweet and will arrange whatever wish you have. Thank you for the most amazing time there!

Awesome location right in the jungle. We saw monkeys, squirrels and other wildlife. The cabana is basic but a decent size, it worked well for our family of 3. It's an easy walk or tuktuk to cafes, restaurants and activities. A delicious breakfast is served in their covered outdoor eating area and was different each day. The staff were great and happy to arrange our transportation, elephant safari and laundry service. Even though it rained heavily almost the entire time we were in Sigiriya we really enjoyed our time here.

The resort is brand new having only opened March 9th 2024 and all the facilities are exceptionally clean and modern. Our stay was very comfortable and the large swimming pool was perfect after a hot day of climbing the Lions rock and visiting the ancient city, both of which are very close to the resort. The staff are highly motivated and helped us with all our needs. I highly recommend this place.

The room was clean and so spacious, breakfast was delicious- a mix of traditional and western breakfast. Staff were so lovely and helpful, we had a delay with our drivers car and they offered us late check out at no extra charge- this was so kind. Great for the kids with lots of grounds to explore and the pool was a beautiful extra touch. Great location, close to everything you would want to do in Sigiriya. More than a 10/10. Thank you for an amazing stay!

Overall, very good place for relaxation and ayurvedic rejuvenation amidst salubrious and pristine environment. The room was enormous with a plunge pool and luxurious four poster bed which gave us utmost comfort and deep sleep. Beautiful spacious bathroom, plenty of storage with traditional furnishings. Lush greenery and the song of the peacocks and other birds, dancing monkeys offer lots of free entertainment. Staff were so professional and kind in fulfilling our requests including our three day extension of stay due to cyclone ditwa and road closure. Our package included wonderful elaborate breakfast and quality Ayurveda treatments by attentive therapists. Had some initial hiccups where hot water wasn't working in the bathroom which they fixed attentively. Due to being home for wild elephants, safety restrictions beyond specific time in the evening apply but the staff guide appropriately. Special thanks/Stuti to Chandana, Laksha, Ranga, therapists, restaurant and housing keeping staff for looking after us so well during our stay. Would highly recommend for guests of all ages to experience Ayugiri hospitality.

The resort is put together beautifully. peaceful and perfectly blended with the natural surroundings. Our water dwelling was just stunning. The attention to detail and the room layout are awesome. The service was outstanding. A special thank you to Ravindra and Amila, who looked after us throughout our stay. It’s great to have a personal butler, but what made the experience really special was how genuinely they cared about making us feel at home. The guided tour of Sigiriya Rock and the elephant safari are well-organized, and the naturalists who joined us were knowledgeable and making the trips more than worthwhile. If you’re planning to do these kinds of trips, definitely go with a guide. The food was another highlight with attention to local dishes as well as international cuisine.

We had a wonderful stay, especially on such short notice! Nimal and his team went the extra mile to ensure we were looked after. The villa was incredible, placing you right in the centre of nature and on each walk to the restaurant, we saw beautiful birds and even a peacock! My wife and I were both treated to the famous Sri Lankan hospitality, as mentioned by our friends who visited this beautiful country and hats off to the chef for producing mouthwatering food! The chef even taught us how to make pol roti, a delicious breakfast item in Sri Lanka. We wish we booked more days as the resort offers so much! We will certainly recommend this beautiful resort to our friends and even come back here. Thanks, Wild Grass team for the memorable stay!

We had an amazing stay at Water Garden Sigiriya. The whole place is so peaceful, and it felt like we were surrounded by nature – perfect for a relaxing getaway. Our room was incredible – super spacious and comfortable, and having our own private pool was definitely a highlight! The food was great; every meal was delicious, and you could tell a lot of care went into it. The service was also fantastic, especially from Sashi, Thamidu, and Dilshan, who made our stay even more enjoyable. They were friendly and always ready to help with anything we needed. Overall, it was such a memorable experience, and we left feeling completely recharged. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a mix of relaxation and great hospitality!

Seeing the most relaxing pool and greenery of the hotel gave me a sense of calmness from the time I arrived. The Staff were very helpful in wanted to know our needs and arranged for the Safari jeep to pick us up directly from the hotel. As a wildlife enthusiast I loved how this hotel is built to blend with nature and is felt when in the property. Breakfast was great and I got to try a few Sri Lankan spices with egg hopper. Made sure to use the discount I had on the Spa and was exactly what I needed after a good game drive. Didn't really have time to try their other activities although tempting but hey there's always a next time.

the tree house is a unique experience, if you love nature is a must to try! We have been there with our 2 kids (5 and 8 years) and they loved it! Lizards, birds, monkeys, butterflies, you have everything around you, the connection with nature is great there. Staff is super friendly and available, food is also very good! You are walking distance form Pidurangala, and 10 minutes by car from Sigiriya

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but...

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but purely for the iconic Sigiriya Rock—and it was absolutely worth it. The experience was incredible, with stunning views from the top. My friends and I climbed up for sunrise, which I highly recommend as the best time to go. Just be prepared: there are a lot of stairs—some carved directly into the rock, others metal and uneven. We visited in November just after the monsoon, so it was warm and the climb had us sweating buckets. If you plan on taking those perfect social-media photos, bring a spare T-shirt… or do what I did and let AI handle the magic! Although the ascent was tough and left us literally out of breath, the moment we reached the top made it all worth it. The views were truly breathtaking—quite fitting, since the climb already took my breath away.

The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, providing a perfect space to relax after exploring Dambulla. The hotel’s atmosphere is peaceful and charming, with a great balance between modern comfort and natural surroundings. The food was delicious and freshly prepared, and I truly appreciated the attention to detail in every aspect of the service. A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Even on cloudy forecasts do not visit as all mointain tops then will be covered and you will not see the sights. when it is humid leaches also will be active and will become a painful experience.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for two nights in the end as we got to sigiriya late. This meant we ate dinner one night at the little hut which wass great, climbed the rock, then moved on to the habarana which was also interesting to wander and eat.

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A visit to the Bawa hotel, Heritance Kandalama, is well worth it as an insight into the brilliant architectural mind of Geoffrey Bawa.

Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time. Generally Matele was quit good tourist destination if it is planned well with couple of days.

The weather is very calm.

The weather is very calm. Recommended time to start climb is 5.45 AM. So worthy to watch the surroundings from top of the Sigiriya. You can learn a lot about Sigiriya. You can get a guide if you want from the entrance.

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy,...

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are around an hours drive but Dambulla is much well-connected and less touristy.
