Loved the location, the room, the gym and the staff. It is an unusual hotel by Japanese standards, a converted convent beautifully converted. The staff went an extra mile to help us. Very convenient for the Glover gardens.

Great view of the forests and the water reservoir. You also have a Japanese style room where you can have tea for example. There is a small corner with microwave, kettle, sink, a seating area and a fridge with some drinks to buy, you can have breakfast there. Extremely kind owner, downstairs is a coworking space so you can meet all kinds of people. The grocery store and restaurants are a 10-minute walk. Breakfast options are limited in the village and most places only open at 9:00, so stock up on some pastries from the grocery store at the main bus stop. For dinner, Kinugasa cafeteria is highly recommended, they also have vegetarian options, which the other places usually do not. If you want to try a little bit more posh spa other than the traditional public baths, try Unzen Onsen Seiunso Hotel which is around 30 minutes walk or a 10 minute bus ride (the bus terminus is right in front of the hotel). It has both an internal and external spa area. Enjoy!

This renovated hotel was a nice surprise, the rooms are big, with a balcony and stunning views. Very clean, excellent bedding, nice onsen baths and sauna with great views and amenities, and unlike onsen baths i have seen in some other places, these baths are recent and don’t have an outdated feel. There are vending machines selling ice cream for after the baths. Also super friendly staff. Good breakfast buffet with Western and Japanese choices and some fresh fruits (pineapple, orange). We didn’t use the pool but it looked lovely and clean. We will definitely stay here again when we return to the area. It is conveniently located for day trips to Arita, Hirado, Unzen, Nagasaki if you want to explore the area and stay in one accommodation. The only reason we didn’t stay longer is because it was booked out.

It’s an amazing place. Starting from the entrance with an artistic doors and walls long the escalator to bring us at the front desk. They have a large selection of yukatas, so you can chose the one you prefer. From the room with the view you can see the bay of Nagasaki. The onsen on the 3rd floor is lovely but the one on the 11th is amazing! It has a large pool outdoor from where you can see all over the city. If you stay at this hotel, you don’t need to go on the very top of the mountain. Both the dinner and the breakfast have an large buffet full of various exquisite food. They have a shuttle service to the station. Very happy with my staying.

The style of this hotel. The way the staff remembers your requests and cares for you. The scent of freshly cut lilies in the lobby. Beautiful spacious room bearing the atmosphere of the golden times it was built in, breathtaking views from the window, which you can open and breathe. And yes, a lifetime amount of fresh Nagasaki biscuits I consumed at a buffet-style dinner. And a big steamy traditional bath at the 3rd floor. And the cozy shuttle-bus to the station down the hill. Highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed 1 night at this hotel. Room was clean and essential items were provided for. Room was large enough for the twin beds and the beds were comfortable. The hotel was situated on a hill away from the city centre. The view of Nagasaki city from the hotel rooftop was beautiful both in the day and night. The onsen in the hotel was clean and large. There's fee carpark and large enough for many cars. Highly recommended.

We drove so it was alright for the location. It turned out to be a surprised it was a resort. We had a large room and our room had a so called 'living room' space. The hotel provides shuttle bus to fetch passengers from point to point. We walked between the hotel room and restaurant, it was scenic and beautiful along the way. A pleasure stay for us!

Amazing city with mixture of Japanese, Chinese and European cultures and long history. As someone lived in Japan for over a decade I think Nagasaki is one of the most underrated cities in Japan. A true hidden gem that is not over crowded by foreign or local visitors. A great place to visit for culture, food, history, nature, and great views. Kind and friendly locals too. Highly recommended!

Really great seaside town with a large American influence due to the military base in town. The food was great and the night scene lovely as well, though I wish I had more time to visit the Bio Park - will plan to go next time! Haus Ten Bosch was a really unique experience and I'm glad I went!

There is a lot of culture and history to explore in Tsushima. I would definitely recommend hiring a car, so make sure you have your International Driving License before your trip! The public transport isn’t very easy to navigate and you would be able to experience so much more with a car.

We spent 5D but a relaxed tour of the historic sites plus a bit of shopping would probably only need 3-4 days. We enjoyed the historical sites such as the Atomic Museum, 26 Martyrs Museum. There’s also a balance of nature sites such as Peace Park, Glover Garden and taking the ropeway up Mt Inasayama. It’s really easy to get around Nagasaki, with the friendly staff at the Tourist Info Centre, using trams and their public buses (just use google!)

Sasebo is a good staging point for Catholic pilgrimage trips. We went to Hirado, Ikitsuki, and Kuroshima from here. The ferry options to the Goto Archipelago are limited here; Would try to go from Nagasaki if given the chance again. Sasebo is very westernized and their specialty dishes are steak and hamburgers. There are shopping arcades you can go and visit.

The time when we went to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb site was probably not the best time as there seemed to have been at least one cruise ship full of tourists that were in a hurry to see the museum and the site nearest the blast. In addition there were bus loads of students that were also visiting the museum. Hence the museum was really packed and the guests were almost being hurried along just so the queue to enter will not become too long. In this manner, we were not able to see all of the exhibits in the museum nor were we able to linger around the more interesting ones as well. The park was huge but was still filled up with tourists and students. We were still able to enjoy the sculptures that were donated by different countries. These did not, however, prevent one from feeling the enormity of the effect of the bomb.

Sasebo is a hidden gem, perfect for those who enjoy a quieter lifestyle and want to avoid the crowds of more tourist-heavy destinations in Japan. With its laid-back vibe and scenic spots like Huis Ten Bosch, the Sea Aquarium, and the stunning Kujukushima (99 Islands), it offers a peaceful retreat without sacrificing things to see and do. The city also boasts delicious food, including Michelin-starred Champon at the train station and famous local burgers. Sasebo, as the base of the US Army, offers a unique mix of cultural and culinary experiences, making it a great choice for a slower-paced, yet rewarding, getaway. That said, I wish there were more quality hotels in Sasebo, as the available apartment and Airbnb options are quite limited and overpriced.
