The hotel is in a very good location, near the beach and the promenade, with a building rich in history. The architecture and history are beautiful. It used to be luxurious, and that's still noticeable. Our room was on the 5th floor. Comfortable bed, renovated bathroom, dry, and clean. I especially want to mention the staff. My son got sick with a high fever, and we needed a late checkout at 5 p.m. They accommodated us without charging for an extra night and allowed us to stay for a very symbolic additional fee. We definitely want to come back.

Visitng York during Christmas time is a joy.

Visitng York during Christmas time is a joy. Shambles street takes you into a different time period with shops still maintaining the original outlook. Lot of different experiences in every shop. York Chocolate Story tour was a good experience for the whole family. I have been to York Dungeon before and they have changed the setup, so it seems to be less horror. It is good for people who like to listen to horror stories.

Leeds City Cente is a fantastic place to come shopping, especially at Christmas. We found the xmas markets food based mostly with no real nick nack shops, in fact it was an overpriced food market. YORK was much nicer and cheaper. Its accessible and you can get round most of it in a day. Lots of food choices. Now then thats where the good stuff ends. Be prepared to feel intimidated by all the rough sleepers and vagrants. They pack up in groups of 4 to 6, hang around everywhere. They dont approach you, fair enough, but what are the Police and council doing about this??? Really brings the city down and to shame. Take a trip into Thorntons Arcade. We saw a rough sleeper inside the night before visiting it. Ohh my it all smelled of urine. How are the shopkeepers able to put up with this. Awful we were holding our breaths and resisted any shopping there. I lived in Leeds for 30 years and remember the rough sleepers hanging around the churches, what ive seen this year is disgusting and the authorities need to get a handle on this. So if your planning a trip, enjoy the shops and ignore the weird homeless and men and women who walk shout and scream TO THEMSELVES. Or walk into takeouts rummaging through the bins without a care. Or do yourself a favour and go to Metro, Meadowhall and similar

The location was perfect for attending The Sheffield Arena for a concert, other than the location the facilities were awful, a toilet in a small cupboard, the sink in the actual room, alongside the shower in the room with a glass door and a big round hole in the glass door for any other occupants in the room able to view you in the shower, therefore we felt too uncomfortable to use the shower. The beds moved as not attached to the headboard and were on legs like a camp bed, a very small tv in the corner of the room, budget ibis facilities is an understatement, we left early next morning to escape the unfortunate facilities and to shower back at home in private Payment for parking is also an insult as room prices way overpriced let alone parking fee on top !!

The city centre itself is architecturally impressive, lots of lovely Victorian buildings and the streets have had a makeover due to the Bradford 2025 status. The Alhambra and Bradford Live venues are impressive and there seems lots to do and see. A few nice restaurants too. However, the city can feel a little intimidating at times, gangs of young men and kids and lots of homeless, particularly if you venture outside of the immediate city centre. The Broadwalk shopping centre is clean and modern, but other areas of the city centre and run down and very tired, with lots of empty shops. More phone and vape shops than anywhere else I've been in the UK for some reason. Beware also of the standard of driving in the city, as speed limits, traffic lights and indicators are frequently ignored, so always check twice before crossing the road!

We wandered around Whitby for a day after arriving on the bus from York. There is plenty to see and do even though it is winter. We enjoyed fish and chips, the walk to the beach, lighthouse, the abbey, cliffs/coastal path, and the brewery. There are plenty of shopping opportunities as well. I would recommend the Magpie Cafe for dining.

Doncaster town is very depressing.

Doncaster town is very depressing. Big shops moved out and lots of shops closed entirely. Such a shame. We lived here for eleven years and moved with work but come back frequently to see friends. From the bank HSBC up Hallgate to the top is a very sad sight. Money needs investing to make it lovely again.

Scarborough like the vast majority of seaside towns has a lot to offer in terms of spectacular scenery. If you enjoy being outdoors, you have two beautiful beach’s in the north and south bay, lovely harbour with fishing boats some great coastal walks, Dalby Forest and the north Yorkshire moors only a short drive outside of the town. The downside to Scarborough and this is common to a lot of seaside towns now is the infrastructure and buildings especially the hotels and guesthouses look in desperate need of renovation, repairs and generally in need of investment. The lack of activities for local young people might also be seen as a downside but again austerity takes it toll on communities.
