The hosts were very kind and supplied milk , bread, biscuits, butter and cheese, . It was very comfortable, very spacious. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils and crockery. Great location for walking or cycling. Good selection of DVDs to watch. Close to supermarkets. Would definitely stay again. Thanks for such a fab holiday.

Newton Stewart was and I suppose still is the big town close...
Newton Stewart was and I suppose still is the big town close to the village where most of my family came from, so I have an affection for the place that is steeped in decades of trips back to Scotland for reunions, birthdays and special events most of which happened in the Newton Stewart hotels ... so my experience has always been tinged with excitement and fun and I've always found it friendly, welcoming and a town ready to have a good time. Great pub food along the high street, a solid chippie in the main square and ideally located for a jaunt around the south and Wigtownshire.

Well worth the journey.
Well worth the journey. The roads were so quiet and the scenery was breathtaking. We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Steampacket; my starter was exceptional. They brew their own beer, Five Kings, and my husband can’t stop telling everyone how good it was. We enjoyed a live music night and the atmosphere was welcoming and friendly.

Me and my friends all read a lot and we enjoyed the bookshops in Wigtown very much. We also visited Whithorn and a nature reserve outside Whithorn which we enjoyed very much. It was our first trip to Dumfries and Galloway, so was exploring it a bit. We all would like to come back again. We ate out in the middle of the day both days and had really good food. We were only there for 2 full days so couldn't see and do a lot, I do want to go back again to explore a lot more. And I would stay for longer.

Whithorn doesn't really have any facilities for a great vacation.
Only 1 restaurant was open (sandwich £10) , there was only 1 small grocery shop with limited fresh foods.
You will need a car to visit the local sights of interest.
Expect a long walk from the car park, the cave was over a mile away from the car park.
Beautiful scenery, lots of farmland and open spaces.
Local bus services not very frequent.
Wigton has probably more to do than Whithorn.

Monreith is very quiet, no shops or pub.
Monreith is very quiet, no shops or pub. But there is a beach, you just need to know the tide times.
No light pollution at all - was awesome with a full moon, sadly no northern lights, as very cloud & wet for the week we were there.
Local shop in Port William & also a pub just the other side - The Cock Inn - but they do not allow dogs.

The Galloway area exists in a different time zone to the rest of the UK !
Kirkcowan is very (and I mean very) quiet. The roads are almost empty most of the time and things happen at their own pace. Kirkcowan offers no night life or anything like that, it doesn't even have a pub ! So, if that is your thing you will be disappointed. However, if you like restful and relaxing breaks and a slower pace of life, then a holiday here, or anywhere nearby like Wigtown or Whithorn would be ideal. I'd happily live there !

We liked everything about our stay at Conifer Lodges. The location was excellent, the lodge was spotless, beds were comfy and hot tub was amazing. We had such a good time we've booked again for next year

Views , surrounding area…. It’s very small and quiet.
Views , surrounding area…. It’s very small and quiet. Don’t go if you want fun fairs, sea side shops.
There are lots of community hubs that have cafes and that are by the sea or in lovely villages.
We ate in the Port William PIRSAC cafe-run to support the inshore lifeboat. They do breakfasts, lunches, snacks and early dinners.
Huge portions and lovely staff.

A busy wee town, lovely butchers shop and nice shops for browsing, good variety of cafes, restaurants and take aways, some places dog friendly too. Locals very friendly and chatty, All made for a nice break for us.
