I would put 11 out of 10, I could! It was a dream-like stay. Fantastic expirience! My husband had a birthday, so the host kindly decorated the room for us and gifted a birthday card (with a wonderful view of Edinburgh, so we definetly will hang it on the wall in our house). The rooms are very comfy, and the breakfast was delicious!

FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

Edinburgh is definitely one of my top cities.

Edinburgh is definitely one of my top cities. The gothic vibe, old cemeteries, and dark, striking buildings create a real character that is genuine, not commercial. The museums are amazing, free and well-organized, making you want to take your time and really learn. Walking through its streets feels like stepping back in time. It's a beautiful, atmospheric, stunning city that matches all the expectations!

I am biased, because it is my hope at some point to relocate to Glasgow. It is a city which excites me and makes me feel at home and happy. I am always sad when I have to depart and come home. I believe it will be possible at some point to relocate, but it is all down to opportunity and money. I had a couple of surprises with the city, namely a Cex store which closed down, but more so, this year, (2025), Cineworld closed down, which was a real surprise. But there is the Glasgow Film Theatre, which I love, and I saw two movies there on this stay. I have a few standout memories of Glasgow from long ago, as a small boy and they are the only nice memories I have of a childhood, that was not exactly filled with happiness or glory. Glasgow is where my heart is and always will be, it is just a matter of the right opportunity to come and take advantage of, which will be more permanent, even though I am well aware it is a massive change.

The city itself is beautiful sitting right on the Loch Ness with charming, sweeping views of the Loch and castle which looms over the city in all its majesty. A small and quaint city and very enjoyable to walk around, beautiful buildings and locals which made our stay very welcoming. Our favourite locations in and around Inverness had to be Culloden battlefield for its rich and moving history and of-course the castle of Inverness with its panoramic views of the city. Our only gripe is the unfortunate state of cleanliness in the streets after dark, which were littered with trash.

I didn't know Glasgow Airport was in Paisley! I was only in the airport. I went straight to Glasgow and never saw or knew I was in the vicinity of a separate town called Paisley. I'm sure it's a lovely historic town, but I've never been there. The airport was fine, as airports go. The Marriott Hotel was great, like all the other Marriott hotels.

I had imagined Aviemore to be an old town like Pitlochry and Dunkeld, but in fact all the buildings in the Main Street seem to be fairly new, apart from the railway station. It has lots of shops selling outdoor clothing, and is not very attractive architecturally.
