Our stay at the Virgin Hotels Edinburgh was unique and left nothing to be desired. From the perfect location in the old town, the wonderful and tasteful design, the great food in the in-house restaurant, the sweet & tasteful birthday surprise for my mother - it really was a perfect stay. But what made our stay special was the hotel team. We have rarely experienced such dedicated, warm and welcoming people who were truly interested in doing everything for their guests. We would like to make a particularly positive mention of the reception staff and the breakfast service staff. Ultimately, a good hotel lives from its staff and the Virgin Hotels Edinburgh has really achieved this. Many thanks for that. We definitely will be back!

FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

We enjoyed our stay in Alyth form the first to the last minute. The guest house (a former doctor's house) has been beautifully renovated and furnished with various design objects, thus creating an unique and welcoming atmosphere. Our room on the 2nd floor was spacious, cosy and quite. Our hosts Graham and Karen did not only provide us with delicious breakfast and unparalleled hospitality, but also with tons of valueable tips for trips around the area. Its those little local tips that you cannot find in any travel guide, but they make your day unforgettable. So we discovered scottish lochs, waterfalls, parks and villages that we would not have seen otherwise. Supported by sunny wheather, we made wonderful experiences and we hope to remember them for a long time. Would like to come back. Thanks for those good days !

I didn't know Glasgow Airport was in Paisley! I was only in the airport. I went straight to Glasgow and never saw or knew I was in the vicinity of a separate town called Paisley. I'm sure it's a lovely historic town, but I've never been there. The airport was fine, as airports go. The Marriott Hotel was great, like all the other Marriott hotels.
