Sidmouth is a delightful coastal town that exceeded our expectations. The high street offers a excellent range of diverse shops - refreshingly different from the usual chain stores you find elsewhere, with plenty of independent boutiques and specialist retailers. The natural scenery is outstanding. The beach and clifftop walks provide superb views along the Jurassic Coast, and there are numerous well-maintained walking routes around the town for all abilities. It's the perfect base for anyone who enjoys getting out on foot. Despite its compact size, Sidmouth punches well above its weight. The town has a good cinema and some truly great restaurants offering varied cuisine. Parking was straightforward to find, which made exploring stress-free. Overall, Sidmouth strikes a lovely balance - it's compact enough to navigate easily on foot, yet offers plenty to see, do and enjoy. We'd thoroughly recommend it for a relaxing break with quality amenities and stunning coastal surroundings.

It was great to walk along the Cob at the harbour - as made famous in French Lieutenant's woman. Evening brought sunset over the harbour. Very good range of shops - from standards like Fatface to arty and crafty ones. Good walks along this bit of Jurassic coast.

We only went into town once during our stay but wished we'd made more time. A lovely town to walk about and some really interesting shops, could easily have spent more time here if we'd planned for it. All the shop owners we met were friendly and chatty and more than ready to offer directions or recommendations. Enjoyed an amazing pork and chilli sausage roll from a bakery there too. Our daughter particularly enjoyed exploring Swish & Flick to spend her pocket money - lots of Harry Potter merch but also Alchemy England, Nightmare before Christmas, Lilo and Stitch, crystals, gemstones etc.

Portland is a lovely location set a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of Weymouth. There is plenty to do and see in and around Portland, although it is easier to do these things eg; Portland Bill when you have access to your own transport. We absolutely would recommend dining at Crab House Cafe which is set near the end of the causeway before reaching Weymouth itself, and there is a quirky place called White Stones Gallery and Cafe in Easton, which has lots of local art on display amidst the tables customers eat at. There is also a fantastic area outside. Lovely garden with more artwork and tables spread about outside. We also dined as non residents at the Portland Heights Hotel which is another good dining experience with the added delight weather permitting of watching the sun setting, and of the wonderful view of Chesil Beach in its full glory.
