We enjoyed a very tasty dinner in the restaurant as well as breakfast in the more casual area next morning. The room was well appointed though not a lot of floor space for our 2 large suitcases. There was very easy access from the car. The breakfast had plenty of choice and make your own cappuccino etc machines as well as boiling water for tea.

Beautiful old coaching hotel on the hill above Ross on Wye. I only stayed for one night on the way to a friends. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a beautiful spacious outside balcony with many tables overlooking the river. I had an Irish coffee overlooking the sunset. Lovely food which you can have outside on the balcony or inside the comfortable dining room.

It's a beautiful apartment with all the facilities you might need. There's a functional kitchen, a washing machine and iron and a cupboard full of books and games. It's located within the market square and has a cool pub and cafe right opposite. The hosts are fantastic. They pointed out Puzzlewood, a must visit attraction. We also drove to Symonds Yat near the river Wye, a very scenic place.

Kathleen, the manager was so welcoming and really looked after us. We were a party of 7, and she made our stay so special. Chef made us delicious evening meals and breakfasts. All staff were so friendly. The pub is so cosy and beautiful, and the bedrooms/accommodation are excellent. It was our Dad's 85th birthday weekend and it has given us fabulous memories to treasure.

Ross is a small historic town in a lovely position with views over the countryside from the higher part and walks and places to eat and drink along the riverside..The shops in the town are rather limited with lots of charity shops but there is an excellent bookshop and some antique and gift shops. There are a number of pubs and restaurants with varying menus. There are buses to surrounding towns and villages

Picking a hotel or pub that reflects your needs.

Picking a hotel or pub that reflects your needs. A small town in the middle of the forest of Dean which is a wonderful place plenty of things to see and visit but the place you stay should be relaxing when you come back to recharge for the next day of exploration. Perhaps it needs to push how it's in the right place for a wonderful area of the United Kingdom.

Gloucestershire and in particular, Cheltenham is great shame the same can't be said for this property. It was filthy, illequipped, obviously not managed properly, not cleaned and not maintained. It was cold and only approached a reasonable temperature when the heating was left on all day. As soon as it went off, the draughts came through the single glazed windows and the house was cold again very quickly. Insufficient plug sockets, light switches hidden behind the free standing wardrobe. Stairs to the cloakroom, toilet and hand basin are an accident waiting to happen. The door opens and the stairs are immediately in front of you. Unfortunately I didn't take photos, too taken up with keeping children safe and cleaning crockery and cleaning the pitifully insufficient cooking equipment to provide a meal.

With the rail links, it is a perfect centre for travellers, as public transport is relatively poor. Travelled by a friend's car to places like Monmouth and Coleford, and it is possible to go to Gloucester and Cheltenham by train. I didn't need to eat out much, as breakfasts were huge, and the Swan did lovely food, including sandwiches. Not a lot to do in Lydney, but as a solo traveller, I felt very comfortable sitting in the bar in the evening - the landlady even bought me a drink!

Very pretty location on the river Wye. Lots to see and do. The viewpoint at Symonds Yat rock is brilliant and the cafe at the top does lovely ice cream. Enjoyed watersports with YOFI Paddlesports and would highly recommend them, we felt very safe and had great tutorial before setting out - went on a half day canoe trip with the family and also hired some paddleboards. Ye Olde Ferrie Inn was great for food and dog friendly. Would definitely be back to the area.
