Beautiful old coaching hotel on the hill above Ross on Wye. I only stayed for one night on the way to a friends. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a beautiful spacious outside balcony with many tables overlooking the river. I had an Irish coffee overlooking the sunset. Lovely food which you can have outside on the balcony or inside the comfortable dining room.

The Three Tuns hotel is a lovely Welsh Pub right beside the Chepstow Castle and the Eye River with England just across the birdge. Room 4 has its own entrance from the road and is delightful. It has a small kitchenette (microwave, jug & sink, but no fridge or stove), good heaters, good water pressure and and great hot water. We were permitted to keep our touring bikes in the room with us. The included full Welsh breakfast really got us going the next day. We would stay again.

Ross is a small historic town in a lovely position with views over the countryside from the higher part and walks and places to eat and drink along the riverside..The shops in the town are rather limited with lots of charity shops but there is an excellent bookshop and some antique and gift shops. There are a number of pubs and restaurants with varying menus. There are buses to surrounding towns and villages

Picking a hotel or pub that reflects your needs.

Picking a hotel or pub that reflects your needs. A small town in the middle of the forest of Dean which is a wonderful place plenty of things to see and visit but the place you stay should be relaxing when you come back to recharge for the next day of exploration. Perhaps it needs to push how it's in the right place for a wonderful area of the United Kingdom.

Gloucestershire and in particular, Cheltenham is great shame the same can't be said for this property. It was filthy, illequipped, obviously not managed properly, not cleaned and not maintained. It was cold and only approached a reasonable temperature when the heating was left on all day. As soon as it went off, the draughts came through the single glazed windows and the house was cold again very quickly. Insufficient plug sockets, light switches hidden behind the free standing wardrobe. Stairs to the cloakroom, toilet and hand basin are an accident waiting to happen. The door opens and the stairs are immediately in front of you. Unfortunately I didn't take photos, too taken up with keeping children safe and cleaning crockery and cleaning the pitifully insufficient cooking equipment to provide a meal.

With the rail links, it is a perfect centre for travellers, as public transport is relatively poor. Travelled by a friend's car to places like Monmouth and Coleford, and it is possible to go to Gloucester and Cheltenham by train. I didn't need to eat out much, as breakfasts were huge, and the Swan did lovely food, including sandwiches. Not a lot to do in Lydney, but as a solo traveller, I felt very comfortable sitting in the bar in the evening - the landlady even bought me a drink!

Very pretty location on the river Wye. Lots to see and do. The viewpoint at Symonds Yat rock is brilliant and the cafe at the top does lovely ice cream. Enjoyed watersports with YOFI Paddlesports and would highly recommend them, we felt very safe and had great tutorial before setting out - went on a half day canoe trip with the family and also hired some paddleboards. Ye Olde Ferrie Inn was great for food and dog friendly. Would definitely be back to the area.
