We stayed for 1 night to attend a music concert by "Beat The Drum", a tribute to Runrig. A brilliant evening! We've always liked Troon so took the opportunity to stay overnight and sample some of the local bars and restaurants. We used "The Fox" on Saturday evening for drinks and dinner and would highly recommend it. We cleared our heads the following morning by walking along the beach. Very friendly town.

I lived in Dunoon for two years 1963-65 and the return visit with my family sixty years later was bittersweet as I remembered the vibrant village of years ago and saw too many closed stores where I used to shop but that is the nature of change. Dunoon owns part of my heart. Best wishes to the leaders there to restore the best of it and lose the shabby shops along the main street. ❤️

Helensburgh is a nice little town on the Firth of Clyde, so...

Helensburgh is a nice little town on the Firth of Clyde, so it has a pretty waterfront and a seaside feel, although it is on a river. It is ideal in many ways, as the trains go frequently to Glasgow and even to Edinburgh if you are so inclined. But it is also very near Loch Lomond, only 20 minutes drive and also ideally placed to drive around the peninsulas and lochs of Argyll and Bute. We managed a day trip to Bute to see Mount Stuart which was great, although a long drive, but worth it. There are some very good restaurants in Helensburgh, we liked La Barca Spanish restaurant and also the Vintage Inn pub The Commodore. The pavements are flat and well maintained, great for pushing wheelchairs(like us) or buggies.

Stunning location with views across the sea to the mainland.

Stunning location with views across the sea to the mainland. It was very wet when we arrived but we still managed a windy walk along the promenade. There are a some very good cafes in the town, in particular The Kettledrum cafe, right on the prom where we had a very tasty lunch and a delicious cake! The Victorian Toilets, right by the ferry terminal, are also worth looking at (if not occupied!). Fabulous tiles and mosaic floor. We had a great circular walk from Rothesay the next day, along part of the West Island Way, to two of the inland lochs with distant views to the mountains of Arran. All in all a great little trip!
