We arrived early and the lady said if we came about 1pm we could have the afternoon tea and the rooms would probably be available. The hotel is immaculate and very tastefully decorated. We were also very kindly upgraded . We had dinner that evening in the sister hotel The Inn at Grassmere, very nice bar food. Weather was atrocious on way home, so we sat in the lounge in Bridge house with a drink . What I also liked about the Bridge house hotel was that it is Adult only and Dog free. Don't get me wrong I like animals but not in hotel's and while I am eating. It is very hard to find hotels these days a especially in the lake district that are dog free. Bathroom was large, lovely large fluffy towels. Great shower. Breakfast next morning was delicious and very filling. We were able to leave our car in the carpark while we did a quick walk around the village. It's definitely on my list to return and to recommend.

Have been here many times.

Have been here many times. Every time is different as there are so many things to do. New place opened, I think, this year. It is called Bordo. It is in the square. Good for coffee, tea, cakes, meals, drinks. Amazing decor. If you are into cheap beer, football on big tv's and betting machines, forget it!!! Also welcome dogs. They have a water feeding station for them. Amazing!!!!! On the other hand....... if you are on to the cheap drink etc with still a lovely atmosphere the Caledonia Pub might be for you. Especially on a Tuesday as they have the happy drink day for certain beverages. Also saw two dogs in here. Lovely shop has also opened not too long ago. Selling cards, arty stuff, etc. Lovely to be in it. Mainly I thing geared at women. not for the football brigade who can be seen outside with the sour faces waiting for their wives, girlfriends, etc!!!!

I visit Windermere on a regular basis to dance the Argentine Tango at the Ladyholme Centre not far from the town itself. While there i have stayed in a variety of accommodation and have always had a good experience. The distance between Windermere and Bowness is only a walk of around 20 minutes. Buses are frequent within the area. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in and around the town to choose from and it is a safe place for Solo travellers to explore.

Kendal is a very interesting town just at the border with the Lake District National Park. It offers a lot of eateries and it is a great starting point to explore The Lakes. It is full of history. The last wife of Henry VIII comes from here. The remnants of the castle are very picturesque. And do not forget about the very local speciality: Kendal mint cakes.

A lovely, peaceful town with friendly locals, nice pubs, and great walks nearby. In the town itself, we didn’t find many places where our dog could be off-lead, but there are some nice shops to explore. We stayed at the Grange Hotel — a lovely, dog-friendly hotel with a gorgeous interior and a massive room. On our first night, we arrived late and got a takeaway from Grange Charcoal Grill, which we wouldn’t recommend. On the second night, we ate at The Commodore Inn: my partner’s dish was lovely, but my pizza was overdone. We had breakfast at Tide Café, which was lovely and highly recommended. Everything is in walking distance. Definitley take a walk up to Hampsfell Hospice - you can find the route from Grange on the web - easy to follow.
