The Braeriach Guesthouse was outstanding. It is central in Newtonmore, extremely well presented inside to a very high standard. Lovely colour coordinated rooms. Our bedroom, bathroom and shower was immaculate.Very cosy and safe feeling. The breakfast was excellent, very good quality food. The young lady who cooked our food was very friendly and professional and a good host. We HIGHLY recommend this guesthouse.

A hidden gem just 2 minute gentle stroll from a lovely village. Lovely welcome and a super friendly feel. Really thoughtfully renovated leaving the old world charm intact but with modern convenience. We were treated to the piper on the bridgas we headed out for dinnin the village. We had a gorgeous breakfast looking out over the lawn and the deer walking through the garden was the icing on the cake.

The location is just lovely and warm. One really feels connected with the traditional aspect of Scottish living. The staff is welcoming and helpful, I am vegan and they arranged to have a suitable option in the continental breakfast buffet, which was greatly appreciated. The location is very close to Balmoral castle and to lovely villages like Ballater. 10/10 recommended.

We stayed for 3 nights - 4 adults and 3 young kids and we had a wonderfull vacation. The place is amazing. The house was big, clean and had everything you need for a long stay - big livingroom, long big table, full kithcen with dishwasher, 2 bathrooms and showers, washing maching and also a sauna and a balcony. The 3 bedrooms were big and comfortable. The place has free pool, gym and souna which is great, especially when you are with kids. Also great fields and grass for the kids to play. Wifi was good and ofcourse free parking. Location is also great near Avimor, easy base to travel around.

The room was stunning, 4 poster bed with green velvet drapes, genuine antique furniture, stunning. The castle is staffed by well trained kind professional staff who go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and happy. The food was lovely and very generous. The location is gorgeous, do be prepared for a longish drive through the hills to get there. ...but we'll worth it.. Can't wait to go back for another visit

Excellent site. The pod was perfect with a fridge, kettle and microwave. Site was immaculate. The toilet block and shower rooms were very well kept. There are loads of activities on and off site for families or individuals do do. We were sorry that we were only staying one night. This site is so good that a longer stay is warranted to see and do everything.

I had imagined Aviemore to be an old town like Pitlochry and Dunkeld, but in fact all the buildings in the Main Street seem to be fairly new, apart from the railway station. It has lots of shops selling outdoor clothing, and is not very attractive architecturally.

We went to Ballater to be close to Balmoral Castle, where we went to an artisans market on the grounds. We were there in October, so opening of other parts of the castle were not available, due to royal residence use. I would return to this beautiful part of Scotland again if given the chance, to see more of the castle.

The countryside in autumn was spectacular. There are lots of local walks to suit different levels of fitness. The Spey is nearby so iconic itself and for the whisky distilleries along its banks. Interesting local shops. Fresh local produce. Nice folk. Close enough for trips to the Moray Coast and Cairngorms. Golf, fishing, garden nurseries all in easy reach.

Kingussie is ideal for people who want beautiful walks or a bit of climbing or cycling. There’s a fantastic bike shop called Bothy Bikes where you can hire e- bikes to explore the area. Boat of Garten is a small village which has some good features and services, including a pub, a village store, pizza shop, art gallery and historic railway station. It is well located in relation to forest walks and other outdoor activities. For any significant shopping you needs to travel nearby Aviemore, 4.5 miles away. We preferred the peace and quiet of Boat of Garten for our stay in the area.

Nestled amongst the mountains with paths and tracks leading all over what’s not to like? Sadly, the general facilities here have gone. No shop for example. One place did have a sign out for coffee, but there could be an opportunity here for someone. Worth climbing up the Cateran Trail heading south to get stunning views looking down on the village. Also visit the stone circle, old bridge and the church. Just soak up the atmosphere!
