Fantastic hotel and fantastic surroundings. Excellent breakfast with perfect service. Everything was superb and we really recommend a stay here. Only problem was that we only booked one night. We would have liked to stay longer.

The hotel is ideally situated in the beautiful Keswick area, approximately a five-minute drive from the town centre. We booked seven rooms for 15 guests; the rooms were of comfortable size, breakfast was excellent, and the property itself was charming. It was a pleasant and memorable stay for all 15 of us. We would gladly return and recommend this property to others.

Fantastic place to stay!

Fantastic place to stay! Last minute choice but very glad we chose this location. Fantastic views, lovely and warm in rooms when we arrived, which makes a big difference. Stunning rooms which were spotless. Lovely breakfast in the morning and a fantastic host in Helen. Will definitely be going back, sooner rather than later! Thanks Helen!

Bassenthwaite Lake is a quiet mostly forgotten part of the lakes but offers a good place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Keswick. It offers easy parking, good quality and good value accommodation and some great pubs and restaurants.

I loved the location and comfort of the cottage , perfect for coming home to after a day of walking in the hills or just taking your dog for a stroll ! Keswick is only 15 minutes by car and has so many different shops , pubs and eateries for all tastes. Local pubs are The Sun Inn at Bassenthwaite village and The Castle Inn Hotel back at the crossroads on the A951 ! Both decent and serve food , if a bit pricy ? Spoons in Keswick........sausage & mash with onion gravy mmmmm. A bit further afield Ambleside is another Lakeland gem worth visiting ! Lakeland has it all , Mountains , lakes , views and assorted wildlife ! Definitely something for everyone I'd say.......

The lake itself is very large but not accessible all the way round. There is a lovely walk around Mire House and gardens which takes you down to the lake and to a beautiful church. Park at Dodd Forest car park and it is just over the road. If you can get to Bassenthwaite Lake Station its a must for a fabulous meal (we had breakfast) on a train carriage - highly recommended. If you follow the road down from the station Pheasant Inn is a lovely spot for lunch or dinner and very dog friendly.

Beautiful part of Cumbria.

Beautiful part of Cumbria. If you are nervous of very narrow roads think twice of places like Buttermere and Loweswater...if you are Ok then that also is a lovely area to explore but do not expect lots of shops etc but you will find a warm welcome from local farm shops/cafes and the like. Expect to pay for loos and if you are a NT member you are laughing otherwise carry change and/or your card for car parking. On the narrow roads, the things that look like laybys are in fact passing places and should you meet a bus or tractor at one of these places then you will appreciate how vital they are. Bassenthwaite Lake is centrally positioned for both Keswick/ Grasmere and Ambleside and the lovely Cumbrian Coast. What you might not realise is that there is a lovely drive across to Carlise (the Border city) going through the lovely Caldbeck burial place for John Peel. An easy ride for a different day out. Bassenthwaite Lake has several eating places and we used The Pheasant Inn but there are several others nearby including the old Bassenthwaite Lake train station. Workington, Whitehaven and Maryport are working towns with their own carbuncles and beautiful old buildings. Whitehaven has a lovely harbour and a super bookshop. Workington has a selection of shops and Maryport has a lovely harbour too tho' very different to Whitehaven but the coast os wonderful. I recomend leaving your car at Maryport and taking the train down the coast to Barrow in Furness. If you like to explore...get the feel of a place and not just eat ice cream and mingle with crowds this is the quieter part of Cumbria....my birth county so I admit to being just a little biased!!
